Hi All, I am currently going through the motion of looking for a new supplier for our internet connection, which is due for renewal in September. Due to the time it takes for install and the time it takes to transition, we are looking at doing it soon. The question, which is regarding suppliers, is JANET. If you are an academy, you can now purchase a internet pipe directly from JANET. The costing I have got so far is one of extremly good value, which would mean we can more for less, which is always a future bonus because it is a 1gig connection. So my question is, does anyone goto JANET direct? aka not connected via a county council. If so, how do you find the service and is it a good internet service? Just after some feedback really, because I dont want to commit to something that is a poor system, which I am sure it isnt. Stuart

Sorry guys, just read through my post. Its adding it to the Office 365 platform, it is saying its already registered to another tenant. Therefore I cannot add it to our actual tenanted domain!! Sorry about missing them details out!
-
Hi All, We are now pretty much fully converted to Office365 for our Staff, however we have hit a little problem. The School owns and pays for through Zen internet a TLD with .sch.uk at the end, which is where the problem sits. At some point, we suspect, Rochdale Borough council have bulk registered all the ".rochdale.sch.uk" domains. We have no trace or proof of this, plus we are unable to get any info out of the council. This is mainly due to the fact like most councils, they don't have a in house IT anymore which deals with Schools. I have tried to speak to Microsoft and they are having none of it, which isn't a surprise, wouldn't want my domain hijacking due to some random person saying "Well it does belong to me". So I am reaching out to anyone who is currently still in Rochdale BC and if you have had the same problems as us, if you have been able to fix it, I would love to hear how you did it.

Ruckus ZoneDirector - Anyone updated to v10 firmware yet?
stuartp44 replied to localzuk's topic in Wireless Networks
I have updated to the latest firmware on our ZoneDirector 3000 and the new features are just what the doctor ordered. Not had any issues and are loving the new interface! -
I am sure IE will only attempt SSO if the site is added to the Trusted Sites, sso is not attempted unless the site is stated in there.
-
What type of device is attempting the SSO? Is it a domain laptop you are testing on the guest Wifi?
-
Is this via O365?

Has anyone had any problems when installing the "Window Server 2012 - VDI Suite Per Device Subscription License" being installed with a expiry date of a month? I Installed the license just like other licenses with no problems apart from the expiry date being a month from the installation date.

Port Forward through CLEO
stuartp44 replied to HarrisonJones's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
CLEO is a closed system, the only way in our out is via proxies. If you want to allow access to a web server you will require a reverse proxy that you will have to request via BT Lancashire. -
Hey all, Just to say i don't know if Alex has give up on this one and our school couldn't wait any-more as we needed a solution asap we have got someone to code us the module. If anyone is interested PM me and i will pass your details onto the person who coded us the module which is now implemented and working fine.

I am getting issues with our DHCP not Creating/Updating records within the DNS server, I have tried a lot of combinations to stop this happening. The problem seems to be the owner flag is ending up being the client (IT000$), and I cannot seem to stop this happening. I have been looking everywhere for this error and I can’t seem to get it to stop registering clients with their self as owners of the record. Now I must stress that this is not happening to all clients on the network, I have around 1000 clients and it’s affecting around 20 of them. I have set credentials within the DHCP server and added that user to the DNSUPDATEPROXY group. I have changed the update security on both DNS Servers to allow Secure & Non-Secure updates, the Reverse Lockup Zones are there and working fine. What really annoys me is I manually delete all the records that are flagging up as errors in the DHCP log and they reregister them on next database clean-up and they get reregistered with the incorrect owner. Has anyone got any ideas?

We currently have TMG in place and working well, however we are looking at making more use of TMG's features. We are implementing a new wireless system that i want to be open but secure, to get this we are hoping TMG can step in and work well. Un-Trusted Laptops These are laptops that are not school owned and must not be any configuration change so the user just clicks connect to network, once connected any laptop that are in this group will go through the TMG to access the internet and require the user to login. We have selected captivate as a possible solution for this as you can utilise a listener to capture login info. Trusted Laptops These laptops are school owned laptops that have to be usable at the users home address (E.G no proxy server stated), and can connect to all the school services without any login information as it should all be in the laptop as part of its login process. Theese laptops are connected to a domain. The above is what I am trying to achieve and so far I have managed to get un-trusted laptops to work perfectly, however when it comes down to the Trusted laptops it’s a different outcome. When i read up on TMG it has a client that you can use, even though when I install it the laptops are still not passing on login information. My Network config is very simple in terms of the clients, the wireless is on its own VLAN and the TMG is plugged into this VLAN via a dedicated NIC with an IP address of 172.16.80.254. The DHCP server hands out the IP addresses and the default gateway is the TMG (172.16.80.254). The most annoying part is it doesn’t ask for login information, it just fails!! Can anyone shed any light on this? Stuart

Have you images in your reports?
-
I have run this with no sucess, is there any update on this matter or has it gone sour like most of microsofts mishaps?
-
The problem was down to the reverse DNS, I have two large subnets on my network 172.16.56.0/21 and 172.16.24.0/21, due to their size i didn’t account for all the reverse DNS entries and only placed 172.16.24.0 into the Reverse DNS Entry. What should have been in there was 172.16.24/25/26/27/28/29/30/31 and so on. What this turned out to be is when the DHCP server was doing its database clean it attempted to do a bulk DNS update, but unfortunately one failed and the rest got queued. Somewhere i spotted a statement "If there is a DNS Queue, until the queue has gone any further DNS queries will fail", and surprise surprise it started to work straight way. Anyhow learnt a lot from this and as part of the progress i sorted some problems i didn’t see, but everything is now working fine.
-
Yeh i allready seen that, and you are right i am expecing that on my clients. However the servers are able to talk to each other as they used to as all of them are on the same VLAN, and this problem is between the DHCP server and the DNS server.
-
There is only one domain its just split into different VLANS (One for Main School, One for Sixth Form, One for Servers...)
-
If you have SIMS i would suggest you use PCL5 as it has caused a lot of problems for us, mainly when reports are run.

I have a AD domain that constists of 2 DC's one of which is a DHCP and both of them are DNS Servers, over the sixth week holiday we have changed our network from a flat network to seprated broadcast domains. Since we changed we are having issues with our DNS/DHCP server, the problem being the dynamic updaing of the DNS server. When you see the event log from the DHCP you can see that its not updating the DNS, however when you restart the DHCP service and recheck the event log it updates fine. After a bit you get a failure and then most DNS updates after that fail, however some update ok.

Its not a issue just thought i would create a post for my fixes/tweaks that i have found and others.

If you have Microsoft Office 2010 and your users are receiving "Macros Disabled" message, you can use Group policy to change this. If you have allready installed the Office 2010 ADM files to your group polcy go on, if you have please visit Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Office 2010 Administrative Templates and OCT and follow this Adding New Administrative Templates to a GPO. Goto Microsoft Office 2010 GPO > Security Settings > Automation Secruity > Macros Enabled (Default).

I have created this post as i havnt seen much support for the two packages together. If anyone is having the fun and joy that we are having at the moment with SIMS .net and Microsoft Office 2010 please post your tweaks and fixes for SIMS issues.
