Sorry I disagree. If the keyword is c*** then a positive hit is where it picks up anything with the word c*** in it, including scunthorpe. Scunthorpe is a false positive though as whilst it is a positive hit for the system, it is not a horrible swearword, it is a nice placename. In your analogy a false positive is a a legit file being flagged as a virus maybe because it has certain attributes. In my analogy a false positive is a legitimate word being flagged as a swear word because it has certain attributes (i.e 4 letters). It's the same thing. If the keyword is c*** and it flagged up the word dog for watever reason then that is NOT a false positive as it is not even a positive in the first place, its just a plain mistake or an error or a bug. I dont know why we're arguing the to's and fro's as this is a thread about making Impero better rather than a discussion on the trials and tribulations of the english language.... Butuz

Will do matey. A Couple of thoughts. 1. "Log Viewer" - "Todays Violations". When you "View Image" and click "Save As" it only saves as a Bitmap, JPG would be much better. 2. "Log Viewer" - "Todays Violations". Also it doesn't automatically populate the name of the image so I have to manually type a name / time date etc in which is a complete and utter pain. The screenshot is already called DATE/TIME/PC.jpg in the system so why not automatically pass that name into the "Save As" box please 3. "Log Viewer" - "Todays Violations". When you are viewing a violation it would be very handy to be able to scroll left or right (or up or down) through the violation images so if you have a fair few in the list you can quickly scroll through the pictures to see if there are any nasties in there. Also it would be handy to have a "Mark as false positive" button in the actual screenshot viewer so wholst your scrolling through you can mark nonsense ones a such. 4. ICT Support Helpdesk. I think it would be a really good development to build in an ICT Helpdesk into Impero. This is the kind of software that Network Managers and Teachers will use daily - why not add the ability for teachers to add helpdesk tickets from within the software and for NM's to manage incedents? It doesnt need to be fantastically well featured just a basic system intergrated with Impero and Active Dir? Cheers Butuz

Yes you really need to upgrade if you are a Secondary School. The Express 1 CPU and 4GB RAM limit will be castrating the performance you could get. If you move to SQL2008 Standard and up the RAM in the server to 8 or 16GB you will see a massive performance increase as SQL will effectively load your SIMS database into RAM which is much faster than the hard drives. teejay hit the naill on the head. "hardware agnostic" is by far the biggest benefit of virtualisation with something like the free version of VmWare esxi. Your servers available on pretty much any hardware you like, even a £400 quad core workstation if you need it in a disaster scenario. Butuz

I've got it on 30 day trial at the moment mate and it is very good! I can think of several improvements to the software itself, however the top improvement for us in Wales with no money at all would be the price, paricularly the yearly costs from 2nd year onwards. The head almost fell off her chair. I have not fed back to account manager regarding the quote yet as am going to continue to evaluate it for another week or two. I am worried we can't afford it despite how excellent imperio is. My 2p anyway (and I've got a jar full of em if you need it) Butuz

Our music Depts use PC's which are fully on our network using things like Cubase, Sibelius, Audacity etc. No real problems other than the fact the PC's are 4 years old now and need to be refreshed. Aside from a bit of a pain getting the music software MSI'd and rolled out in the first place I've barely needed to go down there in the last 4 years. Butuz

Yeh have a good reorganise one cab at a time. I colour code cables each Vlan has its own colour, also if you can sub-colour code cables for link speed to e.g dark blue = admin vlan 1gb, light blue = admin vlan 100mb etc. It's a bit of a mammouth job and still ongoing for me but will get all cabs done eventually!!! You are entirely right. BUT why not give the user the choice of what web technology they use? Why not give the person that paid £300-£500 for the device in the first place the ability to run older web technologies if they NEED to for whatever reason??? The point is - Apple are dictating to YOU what YOU use in YOUR school with YOUR device that YOU paid good money for. Thats not how it's supposed to work, that's not the best thing for Apples customers, and this thread is conctrete proof of that. Butuz

I can't say I blame MyMaths to be honest. It's Apple's fault that they refuse to allow Flash to be available on the iPad. Apple are the ones depriving you of access to 90% of animated educational websites, no one else is to blame. It's apple you need to be speaking to and asking them why they have purposefully castrated the iPad so that it does not work with the majority of large educational websites such as MyMaths...... It's either that or Jailbreak the whole lot as I've said. I woudn't worry too much about the whole "Apple Trust" thing. It doesn't sound like being an Apple Trust is patricularly useful in your case. When you put your case studies out about how you were forced to Jailbreak a thousand ipads in order to make them educaitonally fit for purpose it will be apple that look stupid, not you (i can see the REgister headlines now). You'll look like a hero that overcame Steve Jobs massive and counter productive ego in order to simply help your kids learn! Butuz

Agree with localzuk that option 3 is the way forward for most secondaries. Expect on average to halve your printer costs and at the same time probably provide a more reliable service. Butuz

Terminal Services is a Windows 2003/2008 Server where you go into Add Remove Programs and add Terminal Server and Terminal Server Licenceing as roles. Devices can then connect to your terminal server using Remote Desktop RDP. All that's needed are client access licences for each device that connects. Butuz

Why? We're just stating facts based on our existing knowledge of how our teachers use our current equipment and current mostly windows and flash based software. Sureley it's better for us to say "it'll never work" rather than keeping shtwm smiling and knodding, and ending up with 70 ipads delivered with NO clear way to use them. That's happened to several schools on here.....do a search... Yep and they were right, a teacher desktop PC in each classroom is still the fastest, most reliable way of delivering MIS access, teacher apps and interactivity to teachers clasrooms. As large side bonus this method also delivers the lowest total cost of ownership of the lot. I think the problem my grubledookery™ is that tablet / iPad model will actually only suite the vast minority of teachers. The majority will prefer to stick to windows, desktops or laptops, and all of the software they can currently easily use. Change is great. I love it. But change for changes sake? Not so good. Now on that we can agree!! I love my iPad, no windows tablet comes close for usability or reliability. Butuz
