Hi Everyone thanks for the replies. I have checked Disk Management, and the only mapped drives are C and D (HDD and DVD Drive).

Bit of a weird one this.... One of our members of staff has a USB Pen Drive which he uses. This morning, he comes into work, plug the USB Pen Drive into his laptop and it doesn't show in "Computer". I've been down and had a look, and the laptop picks it up as a device, in that if you go to the remove hardware, there is a "Mass Storage Device Present". I've checked in Device Manager, and the USB Device is also present there, however it is appearing as disabled. Right click the device, and the option to Enable doesn't appear, the only choice is to Disable it. So I've disabled it, and then you get the option to enable it, but once you select enable it still appears as disabled. Go into the properties of the device and the only information you get is that the device is disabled. So, I decided to do the obvious thing, and tested the USB pen drive in another machine - where it works perfectly well. So, I did the next obvious thing and tested a different USB Pen Drive in the original machine - the new pen drive worked perfectly well. So I'm now a bit stuck.....clearly the fault must be with the laptop not the pen drive, but I don't know what else to try. Anyone else seen this? Thanks in advance Iain

Same here, I've been running Windows 7 since November time and sims installed fine first time (although I have had UAC disabled), and it does everything I want it to. What I was told at Bett by a gentleman on the Capita stand, was that Sims.net would be supported on Windows 7 by March.

Just to echo everyone else really, thanks for the Mug and Lanyard :-) The Mug already has pride of place on my desk. Thanks to aggy (I think) for taking the time for demoing the Ruckus technology, we'll definitely be in touch regarding that :-)

Forget the original request, now found some write ups of vsphere whereby the functionality to allow this has been removed from the current release. Apparently it will be made available in the future but they can't say when.

Afternoon all, We've just upgraded to Vsphere 4 for our virtualisation. As part of this, I've been led to believe that virtual servers can now recognise/have assigned to them usb devices that have been plugged into the physical server. Has anyone done this? Is it actually possible? The reason for asking is I'm trying to install Solidworks onto a virtual server, and sadly they use a USB dongle for licensing purposes :-( I guess if this is impossible them I'm going to have to install the software onto either our backup server or our Sims server, neither of which I'm particularly keen on doing. Any suggestions, gratefully received as always. Iain

Afternoon all, I've been asked to look at the "websites visited" history of one of our users, as our headteacher has good reason to believe they are doing something innappropriate during school hours (please don't ask what reason or what it is, I've been sworn to secrecy even to my boss, although I hasten to add it's not him who's in trouble, and certainly can't publish it on an open forum). I thought, thinking back to ISA 2000, that it was possible to bring up a log generated by ISA that listed all websites accessed during a particular day (obviously then I'd have to do a find on the log file to find all websites accessed by this particular user, which will be time consuming but will at least work). In ISA 2006 I can't find out how to do this. does anyone have any idea how I might do this (if it is possible)? Many thanks in advance as always. Iain

Hi Andy, to be honest I don't know what the difference between them is (when it comes to the offline files issue :-p). What I can say is that once we upgraded the laptop to Vista, we could logon to it as a number of different users and it would only allow offline files for those users that we specifically told it. As Ben mentioned, it looks like a flaw in XP....perhaps they solved it in Vista?!? (Oh my god I can't believe I just typed that :-) ).

We have exactly the same issue as well. All staff have a laptop, there are plenty of desktop PC's in classrooms and staff areas, why do they need to log on to somebody else's machine? Vista seems to cope with it far better, if that laptop will take it.

Another vote for the Asus here. My Mrs bought me one last christmas (EEEPC 1000 series, but can't be more accurate than that I'm afraid). Runs perfectly well on Windows XP, never had a problem with it. Good battery life, perfect if all you want is something for a bit of surfing on, bit of Office work etc.

We use Netsupport (also known as Classlink/ranger/ and I think RM use it as well), to do this. Not the cheapest (in fact I would go as far as to say it's actually expensive, but it does offer the functionality you require and is very good at doing so, plus a whole host of other features.

And there was me thinking I was the only one....I've seen a couple of episodes and I do not feel the slightest need to laugh. Chris Moyles was playing a clip this morning, billing it as the funniest bit from last nights show....someone reading out a list of food and another saying that someone else is doing it.......is this what passes as comedy?

Hi Fafster, It's not something I've ever had done either so can't really offer any advice. You mention "they" in your original post though. Can I ask who "They" are?

Thanks again everyone, @ sivadam, I have been on supportnet and have downloaded the reports you've uploaded but they don't quite do what I need and I don't have the skills or the time (as I'm doing enough at home at the moment) to do many modifications. The ones provided by ecalpamos do what I need for now and I've found it really easy to tweak them to provide me with alternatives. I have done the home page widget setup with all staff, and provided comprehensive training and "cheat sheets" on how to do it, but teachers being teachers want things on a plate for them (don't ask how the widgets aren't on a plate!) and they seem to prefer to have a report.

@ Sivadam - It was a proper facepalm moment when I was having the conversation. The really daft thing is that the woman who wants me to write the reports for her has apparently already been on the reporting training courses! @ Ecalpemos - Thanks for all your help on this, it seems to be doing exactly what I want to now. hi Sivadam, Apologies if my post read badly. The people at Capita were extremely helpful and polite, my rant was at the staff at our school who couldn't work out why I would need training on reporting.

Thanks for all your replies to this, I have signed up to supportnet but haven't been able to pull off the kind of reports we're looking for. Similarly I have spoken directly to capita and they have taken me through what they can. I'm now pushing to attend the sims reporting courses however when I mentioned it at first the response was [rant] "why do IT need to go on the reporting course? Only the admin staff need to know how to do that"...well if that's the case why are you bothering me to create reports for you!!! [/rant]

We've been having similar issues, however we reported it to Eclipse and they've managed to resolve it, however I've no idea what they did I'm afraid :-( But well worth raising it directly with them.
