  1. Censornet Version 4 is an incredible filtering system - very happy with it at the minute. Although i don't have much to compare it to (apart from a 'netpilot'). I have policies scheduled to various user groups and workstation groups allowing / disallowing internet access at various times of the day. The workstation policies override the user policies. Its a very powerful system and works extremely well for the school. Especially the use of 'Unblock requests', which makes whitelisting sites a breeze. It also blocks all secure sites by default, which i thought would be a major issue but it turns out its not been too bad in the last few weeks we have been using it. Kevin
  2. Thanks for the replies. Thinking of purchasing four Fuji, because, as you say they are fairly robust and chunky Kev
  3. Our Sony Mavica FD 200's are coming to the end of their life and I was wondering what everyone else is using in schools. We have the CD-500 model, but its incredibly slow and difficult to use, for staff that is. Anyone recommend a robust, user friendly camera ? Thats not worth nicking? Thanks Kevin
  4. Have you got office 2003 service pack 2applied. Without it i couldn't use clipart through netpilot. Kevin
  5. Had this afew weeks ago- ended up having to remove WMP11. Just let WSUS take care of it afterwards. Kevin

  7. Hi Does anyone know a PDA that supports public folder synchronization. (EXCHANGE 2003). I currently have a user with pocket pc 2003, and odyssey software's 'on schedule'. Its too fiddly to use succesfully and plus we struggle to purchase it with it being american. I just want to be able to sync to it via activesync. Kevin
  8. Is there a bypass proxy port you can use such as 3128 ? Kevin
  9. Does the proxy need authentication ? If so can you use the admin or an unfiltered user? If you can't and there is no proxy authentication then i assume that he cachepilot is blocking it as inappropriate ... I have WSUS 3 running through a Equiinet Netpilot 3, with and without a proxy (i have tested) which is a similiar sort of thing and works great. Kevin

    Damage to PC's

I have had very little damage to the computer network here and our school is for EBD kids! I have had the little rubber band inside the CD drive removed once, a bluetooth adapter nicked that the teacher left in and a couple of keyboards that have collapsed inside from a over eager pupil playing 'hit the key as many times as you can and win' type games. The only major bit of damage i had was a printers top cover smashed because it wouldn't print. It was only two weeks old! Kev
  11. Hi I have several belkin wireless USB combo's, and the mice are using batteries likes theres no tomorrow. I have some older generation belkin combo's and they are fine. Thanks Kevin
  12. I have installed Lanview 3 but need the default password for the VNC installations. Can anyone help? I have tried emailing [email protected] from my school email account, but had no reply yet. I'd rather not go down the route of changing the password then re packaging it. Could someone PM me with it? Please? Kevin Cedar House School
  13. More info when i run netstat i notice that for servername:http the state is 'time_wait' Kevin
  14. seperate network connected to the internet via a unique static public ip address. Tried telnet public_ip 80 and get connect failed Firewall is built into netpilot- i have set port forwarding on port 80 to the correct IP address Kevin
  15. Hi Everyone Got a prob with OWA. No one can access it externally. I accessed it sucessfully in IE7 on the actual server, and also accessed it fine from another workstation on the network. I have a netpilot(crappilot) v3.2.5, and it has port forwarding setup to route all traffic on port 80 to the internal ip of the server. How can i test the forwarding, as externally i am getting nothing but 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. There is network connectivity. The DNS records for the domain are all present and correct. I can sucessfully ping both the domain name and the ip address from another seperate network. I have tried running adsutil and resetting the OWA folders but that has not had any effect, i have tried disabling the forwarding on the netpilot and re-enabling it. I have checked permissions for the virtual directory and as far as i can see everything is OK there. Personally i am putting money on the netpilot at fault with its forwarding. The only other thing that strikes me is that the server isn't listening correctly on port 80?? Any suggestions guys? Kevin
  16. Hi I have a problem - the way the network is setup at my school is that the Admin have a network and the staff/pupils have a network on different subnets and different domains. The problem is that the edu network is RM'd, and the new admin network is going to be Win2k3. Currently the staff have / need access to the admin network aswell as edu network via only two computers. The head wants all staff machines to have access to both networks. How is this possible ? A VPN tunnel ? Or can we stick them both on the same subnet, obviously taking into consideration DHCP? How would you do it? Can you create a trust between an RM network and a 2k3 network? Thanks Kevin
  17. I know what your all saying - the school has been great with me, but i just don't feel like i'm going anywhere - the network is so small there is no need for another technician, and there is no chance of a promotion to anything above me. Just getting a little frustrated at the minute. I know i should be happy with the situation but i'm wanting a challenge! Money is spent here so slowly aswell being a private company. I suppose i should just complete my microsoft exams i have remaining to MCSE (i have had training for this also) and work out the rest of my 'sentence'. I have applied for another job but i see it as unlikely that anyone would cough up £4k for me. Kevin
  18. Hi All I am new to the forums and having posted this question over at ict technician.com, i also wish for your feedback on the issue. I signed a contract in Jan 04, for £6k worth of MS training, and if i left within 1 year of completed training would payback full amount, 2nd year 2/3 amount, and 3 year 1/3 of amount. It was subject to me completing an MCSA, which i completed in March 06. The problem is now, i would like to leave for a better paid job - but i don't want to be landed with a huge debt. The school i work at is private independent school with investors in people award. My next step is to email investors in people to see if they can help with the situation. Thanks Kevin
