I'm having issue with the silent switch on your uninstaller. It crashes each time I run it with that switch. Even /? crashes it. Perhaps the link I found to the uninstaller isn't the one you are using. Edit: Figured it out. The correct switch is -uninstall. /s or /silent is for older uninstallers.

I've been manually installing the msi's without issue but tried using GPO recently and borked a small set of PCs. How are you getting your EXEs for IE? Thanks for the install script above. Edit: found them

When I see this error it usually means I've forgotten to assign the user any applications.

I use a Citrix Services Site for internal usage with PNAgent (the full Citrix online plugin). I've got apps published in XA and have them placed in a folder on the start menu called MyApps. From here users can create shortcuts on their desktops to access the apps. This setup seemed to be a touch more seamless that having users log into WI and launch apps. We've got some thin clients in play as well. They are to slowly replace retiring thick clients. Having both thick and thin client in use might cause some confusion among staff as they have slight differences in what the user is able to do, but, overall it works well. For remote access I've got a regular WI site created.

I believe you do need a license server, but a VM is supposed to be available soon.

All of my current infrastructure is Win2k3, so it likely would affect me. I've got a XenApp RFP out right now for a 3 host (12 guest) roll out in the fall. The Citrix partner I worked with to build the RFP suggested Win2k3 and XenApp 5.x for stability reasons. I may have to urge for Win2k8R2 and XA6.0.

This thread over at the Citrix forums gives me pause. I think I'll wait a touch longer before jumping up.

Thanks. I went with those settings with the Everyone permission from within the 7110 and used Windows to create the correct permissions on a subfolder of the sun share. General process I used: -create share from within s7000 -assign Everyone full control to the share from the root ACL and share ACL -create my user folder and untick the inherit from parent button -give full control to domain admin and SYSTEM -give special rights to CREATOR OWNER (sub-folders and files only) for full control -give special rights to authenticated users (this folder only) for traverse/ execute folder SYSTEM and CREATOR OWNER were needed so that ADUC could create and assign the user home folder. Auth users was needed so that the user could access the user drive folder. As a hospital we don't have the huge user turnovers that a school would so setting up users through ADUC works for us. That was a heck of a lot easier than trying to do it through the s7000. Anyone have a copy or link to the Sun integration with Windows whitepaper? I'd love to give that a read. Dave

Very interesting read Andy. I currently have a 7110 which hosts a mix of Windows and Ubuntu VMs (XenServer). I've got things like WSUS, SAV, Fog, and Sharepoint running on this gear and it generally runs just like on bare metal. My Exchange 2007 box though is laggy when accessing it and I do see the odd disconect when using Outlook. I'm using a NFS share to host all the VMs, with the default share settings. I also am using an iSCSI LUN on my SQL box to back up the DBs to it. Again, with the default settings. I have a dedicated Procurve assigned to SAN duties, and use LACP to create a 3 NIC datalink to the switch. Unfortunatly XenServer does not use Jumbo frames, so I cannot enable that feature. We are moving into a new building in the fall and I've asked for, and been given the go ahead, on getting a 7310 w/ a 4400 with 11 x 1TB disks and 1 x 18GB logzilla. The existing VMs will migrate over to this box (the 7110 will be repurposed to user drives and backup). In addition I will be building a XenApp farm, which will utilize the 7310. Any future servers will be built on to this gear. I beleive I have enough space for the near term and enough expandability for the long term. I have to upgrade my SQL server this summer and was going to put it on hardware as the sluggishness of Exchange scared me away from using the 7110. Would the 7310 w/ Logzilla be enough to virtualize it, given all that I hve going onto it? Should I be looking at a Readzillla as well? Or multiples of both? My budget it set but I may be able to get some things changed up, or purchase through my operating budget. I mention above that I use default settings for all my shares/LUNs. This is because I've never seen a whitepaper, forum post, or blog on what tweaks would be best to use depending on the usage. Your post shines some light on it for me, but, is anyone aware of up to date data on the subject?

teeyay, I've been trying to follow along here and I am having some success but I'm getting tripped up on the correct permissions on the share so that the ADUC snap-in can set the home folder. I can do it manually, just not through ADUC.

I figured I'd loose everything if I wiped and recreated the RAID level. Better to ask a stupid question than to do something stupid. I have heard many a story of Americans slapping a Canadian flag on their backpacks as they travel Europe, and yes I am a born and bread Canuck. Oh and we really don't say aboot, but I can admit to letting out an eh or two.

I just upgraded to 2010.02.09.0.2,1-1.13 tonight from the 2009.09.01.4.1,1-1.13 and am seeing all the nice new features. Since I have this box in production I imagine that I would have to back up all the existing VMs, wipe the double parity raid config and reconfig using RAID 10 to get the huge speed increases iSCSI gives us with the new stack? EDIT: Wooohooo! AD join finally worked with this build! Sorry aboot that, going back to being a reserved Canadian now...

My hosts are running off an IBM Bladecentre H chassis using HS22 blades with the expansion NIC in them. On the Bladecentre I have 4 Nortel 6 port layer2/3 switches. I read that the Nortel switches can just be fully utilized to get the best throughput, so I have 2 switches each for my corp and SAN (12 port total to each). Looks like I have no flow control setup on the 2824. I haven't read the article yet, but, are they saying that flow control will provide better performance than just using jumbo frames? Since XenServer doesn't support jumbo frames I hadn't turned them on in the 7110 or 2824.

Just did I just got some pricing back on 7310 with SSDs and the price nearly made me jump out of my socks. I'll have to do some serious arse kissing to get one of those puppies.

I had been thinking that my IOPS were a bit high, but, seeing this they look right in line. I've got my 7110 hosting 2 Xenserver hosts which run; AD Exchange 2k7 Sharepoint Desktop Authority WSUS TS (minimal usage) Spiceworks Symantec AV Web server Fog OCS Inventory Blood Glucose monitoring I'm also running my SQL backups to an iSCSI LUN. I was running my user and group file backups to it before the MS iSCSI Initiator on my file server decided to wet the bed and not work any longer. I've got the 7110's 4 NICs split into to 3+1. 3 via LACP to my Procurve 2824 using LACP for SAN traffic and the other to my corp stack of procuves. I am planning on adding another 4 port NIC to up the bandwidth for both links. Add in another SAN switch with 3 LACP trunk to each swith and a pair to the corp net. Hmm my disk activity doesn't look that bad after all. I just notice sluggishness from my Exchange VM that no other VM exhibits. It just might be an Exchange thing that I never noticed on my 2k3 physical box. I'd never run 2k7 on hardware though.

That ended up being my issue as well. Not very intuitive if you ask me. I need to sched some downtime to do some updates on the 7110, and my Exchange box seems to be hitting the disks hard, but other than that life's good.

I can ping all DCs by IP and name. NSLOOKUP on DC IPs bring up the correct names. Anything specific you want me to try? I should mention that the error I am getting is that the clocks are out or credentials are wrong. The time is bang on and well it is the same admin creds I use for joining everything else.

I haven't been able to get AD integration working yet so I haven't looked at CIFS yet. I am getting anywhere from 160MB/s to 300MB/s writing to the LUN from BE11d. Most often towards the 160 end. Actually I've never be able to get any non-MS software to join my domain. I inherited an old NT domain that was upgraded to win2k that I have since moved to 2k3. I couldn't tell you the hours I've spent trying to fix the problem.

One is a backup to disk folder for BE11d and the other is storage for my SQL2000 box to backup to.
