Thank God for Victory2015, I have got this working a treat in Win 10 LTSB 1607, we had an issue where it took ages for the start menu to populate and pinned items would not follow users from PC to PC. I haven't used the double back slash in the path, but pretty much followed the Reg edit details apart from the double back slash, can anyone tell me why you would need the double back slash in the route to files and folders? We don't need the script as we don't have tiles in this edition. Thanks again Victory2015.

if your host is part of the domain, some times it has to be, then please follow this advice on preventing a nightmare with system time. We were having timing issues due to the PDC being a Virtual. Hosts look at the PDC for time, but Virtuals take time from the host, so time issues can just spiral. The scenario is, the PDC is a minute out, host looks at PCD changes time to PDC, later, PDC looks at Host and is a minute out so changes time to Host and so on. Solution Configure your PDC as per How to configure an authoritative time server in Windows Server using the “fix it myself”, configuring a PDC to use an external Time Source. Then make sure you go to the Virtual PDC in Hyper V manager, go to setting, and then to integration services, untick time synchronisation. This works well now. Time servers I used when configuring are “1.uk.pool.ntp.uk.0x1 2.uk.pool.ntp.org.0x1” (Don’t forgot to put the ,0x1 or it won’t work).

ok first off please please don't put all your DCs on the same box, if the host fails than no one can log in and the domain is down, always either have a physical DC as well or and far better have 2 Hosts with a DC on each

I think you all have the same ideas, as has been said you are all talking off the same song sheet. In the risk assessment some can except down time, some cant, but the whole thread was to give Jollie, the best advice he can have, which I think, by the way, has been achieved.

if it helps anyone, we have a company here that sells off second hand kit, this kit is pretty good, for example they have some HP dl 380 G5's with 40 Gb of Ram dual processor for less than hundred quid, they have allsorts at different times, very happy to give details. I know its second hand kit, but i have used it for several years and it is reliable, buy it and put it under contract repair, this works for me. I have even fitted some Primary schools for around £600 with a solution that's ok for 3 years. Not right for everyone but an option.

Like everyone else here, I can't recommend Virtualisation enough, its the dogs, it really is. We are using Server 2012 R2 HyperV. We have several things set up 2 hosts (nodes) that host everything on one San with cluster fail over, these hosts (nodes) are then backed up using Hyperv replica 3. This basically replicates your online servers to an offline replica which can be brought up in the event that you loose the main online nodes or the san. I back each node up to its own replica. I have one DPM backing up the data on those Servers in those Hosts (nodes) and another DPM backing up all the Virtual servers on the 2 replicas, this gets away from the issues that can occur when using DPM to back up clustered servers. so if my main san or nodes go down I just bring up the replicas, and once the main stuff is fixed replicate the changes back and bring them up, then carry on. The other beauty of Virtualisation is snapshots (now called checkpoints in server 2012 R2) ever wanted to roll your sims server back to pre update, easy snapshot it prior to upgrade trail it , SIM has stuffed the update up?, no probs just roll it back.

I am certain that you could go to AD highlight all the users in an OU right click , go to profile tab you will see the drive setting there where you can put the route \\server\location\%username% so long as that is how you are doing it now of course (the route I mean)

do you use folder redirection in AD?

latest thing is richcopy superseded xcopy. this will copy over everything intact but you must use the correct switches, that is critically important. Get this wrong and you can loose your data. Please read about it here Free Utility: RichCopy, an Advanced Alternative to RoboCopy

This is a great web based tool, but when my users try to use it , it just says flash must be installed, works fine for admins. My question is what is it trying to get access to that is locked down. Flash works fine for users on other sites.
