The wifi access points are not wi-fi 6 (they are AC Wave 2), so would not appear compliant with CTC specs. The switches don't appear to have mgig so wouldn't be compliant as wi-fi edge switching and for core switches they would need 10Gbps uplinks to the edge and 40Gbps dedicated stacking ports - which I don't think they have. So no, IMO they wouldn't meet requirements (since no one else had answered you). Nick

Oooh, excellent idea. Registers are a constant problem!! How have you got it set up? A group per classroom? Or a group for tutor machines? We have ours currently set up as groups per building. Great for emergency comms eg "Can everyone in Block D run for their lives", but not enough for day to day communications... Nick

It creates a database of each machine. So it knows that machine name A116-23, S/N:123456789 has the following hardware: 8GB ram as 2x4GB sticks of DDRwhatever An Intel Core i5 whatever processor A certain spec bios revision and motherboard chipset etc And a list of software too. Should *anything* change, it sends an immediate alert. So a change, coupled with who last used the machine will be enough evidence to collar the class if not the individual (and the class will normally grass up the individual if they are all going to get in trouble). If someone outside of a class were to sneak in an unlocked room with a screwdriver and nick a stick, then no, it wouldn't tell us who. But it would tell us when because we would know that at 12pm on tuesday it was fine, but now at 14:00 it's short on RAM. As it happens, we have CCTV in almost all our classrooms. So as soon as we get a hardware change alert, we can fire up the cameras and see who was fiddling. However, without the alert, we wouldn't have known - potentially ever - I doubt we'd even spot it when re-imaging a machine. Several times it has caught students fiddling with machines - usually they are messing about with the battery trying to reset the bios, but occasionally it is theft. HTH, Nick

We're another happy Netsupport customer at Warrington Collegiate. We've used it for *at least* 10 years, probably a lot longer and for the last few years, we've used the whole suit of tools: DNA, Notify, Service Desk. We don't really use Notify in anger - we are saving it for emergencies, but DNA and Service Desk are used by myself and my staff daily and they are major time savers. I can't recommend them enough! We use Netsupport classroom management on our college IT rooms, we are about to buy it for the next door school (who wanted Impero initially but I talked them around). We use Netsupport Service Desk as our ITIL Helpdesk system and we use Netsupport DNA for our asset management. The whole suit of tools is fantastic, backed up by cheap maintenance and good support. DNA was the answer we needed to tracking changes to machines (eg, who just opened the case and nicked a stick of RAM) and also is very handy for tracking laptops because we can see who used what bit of kit and when they last used it. We can also see that the £10k bit of software that a department insisted we renew was used once in the last 3 years - so it's paid for itself! We're just playing with the new version of DNA now and it looks even better. We've just been testing QR code labels for sticking on devices so the technicians can scan them with their phones and pull up all their details. It looks great - just got to get around to upgrading... Nick

Yes of course offence is subjective, but current politicians can not be blamed for the state of the Nation, no matter how you look at it. If they had been in power for 15 years, maybe... For example: post an offensive joke and you offend people regardless of who the original author of the joke was, furthermore, readers would make the assumption that the poster was also racist/sexist (whatever) for re-posting it. Same applies here, although to a lesser extent. I thought it was in bad taste, considering the destruction and loss of life. Comparing the riots to the past behaviour of politicians is, at best, thoughtless...

Only in this country could rioters in £100 trainers, organising themselves on £300 smartphones consider themselves poor! No matter how you try to hide it, you are making apologies for the rioters by placing the blame elsewhere or trying to shift the focus away from the thugs with no morals or decency. Whilst no political party is perfect, at least David Cameron has tried to do something about 15 years of expenses fiddling. Hey may have been late to react to the rioting, but the coalition have only been in power a year and haven't had time, if they wanted to, to break society to this extent. At least it is now going to be looked at. If you want to know what should be done, start by bringing in some form of National Service, working in poor countries, builing wells and houses. Teach the youngsters how lucky they are and teach them respect for others. Only then will this be fixed.

No, I haven't installed PHP or any LDAP plugin. I really will be starting from scratch here. Likewise, the server version doesn't matter. We are virtualised so I can provision a IIS6 or IIS7 based server in minutes. I'll use whatever is easiest, although I suppose there is no point starting a project on an older version of IIS if it will work on the newer one...? What is the PHP LDAP plugin? Do you have a url? I'll google it in the meantime.... Just so you know what we want to do, we have our MIS system (Oracle) queried by an SQL server which then outputs its reports to an IIS6 box as asp pages. I don't do any of that, its all handled by our MIS team. However, the page needs some (decent) security. At the moment it is IIS Baisc Auth. I want it to be LDAP. We don't use Active Directory, only eDirectory, hence needing to use LDAP. The other option I have is to get Apache working with asp, but the report writers would prefer to work on IIS. tnx Nik

Rob, please help I need to set LDAP auth on iis6 or iis7 (doesn't matter which version) to auth against Novell eDirectory. Its for an internal intranet hosting asp pages that needs to be password protected so that only staff can access it. I'm happy with LDAP, eDirectory etc, but I don't know IIS.
