Hi, from reading your comments leco its sounds as though you really need to clarify whether or not you are using DFS, you can find this out by opening DFS from your admin tools and taking a look in there, also check out your logon scripts and check for any FQDN path mappings which will indicate DFS. I noticed you have another thread open about missing adm template/GP issues. Has any work taken place recently, upgrades, removal of any servers?

Hi, while ever you use a browser and have a proxy sepcified all requests will go via it whether it has a domain suffix or not. You are right in adding it to the proxy exceptions list, also generally with websites/Services that are hosted locally i usually setup split DNS so traffic for local users is not going out for external DNS resolution and back in again. Do you have a proxy server onsite and is this upstreaming to another proxy etc. ?

You will need to check each policy in your GPMC, adm templates are irrelevant to the policy name so you need to check what adm templates you have under each administrative templates in your GP's. You can right click and select add/remove tempates and see if you can spot the adm template or alternatively do a search for *.adm templates or look in %systemroot%\inf or the adm template may already be added just dig under that administrative template branch. Also adm templates do not replicate around your domain controllers so if you manage your GP's from multiple servers you will have to search each one. It is best to designate a server you will use for adding templates then they are all in one place. Also you can usually spot when something is a miss with admin templates when looking at the settings in each GP via the GPMC, under the administrative template section if it cannot read the settings from a adm there is usually a GUID instead of what it should read in plain English.

I dont believe this will work, because the ISA has only one NIC it cannot act as a firewall and therefore any publishing rules shouldnt work? It has to have a trusted and untrusted network to provide any protection.

I agree with mb2k01, the adm template appears to have got messed up. Go to group policy and look under the administrative templates section and see if it is there, if not you will need to add it back in and look at what settings have been changed. Removing an admin template doesnt undo any settings and you will need the original template to amend those settings in group policy. The alternative is to create another policy and disable that one.

Have you tried redirecting the default website to an alternate site/port on your IIS Server

I wouldnt personally use mandatory profiles, i have found folder redirection to be less hassle. Also I try not to use any start menu redirection as well and prefer to use group policy to lock down any settings and have uptodate images and where possible use a software deployment soloution to roll out software when needed. Roaming profiles for Staff is OK but staff will need a little instruction on the do's and dont's, if possible if it's acceptable to staff i would do a desktop redirection and lock it down forcing work to be saved to network drives. Politics in school will decide what the users want, its best you spend a day talking to them and finding out all their needs and expectations. But as a rule Roaming Profiles in large environments are a nightmare, mandatory profiles at somepoint will cause issues and present a single point of failure (in my opinion anyway!). Good Luck

Matt40k How is clustered servers with central SAN complicated? Do you have a SAN? When it works not but when it goes wrong very, and to be honest who uses clustering? from my experience in Leeds working for Enterprise as a senior engineer or rather used too i didnt come accross any clustering and dont believe such a solution is necessary (There was the odd nutter who had a silly setup but in the long run is not doing the school any favours when they throw their teddy out of the pram and go off on stress). How often do you experience failure and would require clustering to ensure 99.9% uptime. in the event of complete failure you can get the app working in no time. imiddleton25 Sounds like you do have a complicated setup and if my memory serves me right i can remember the individual who probably came out and consulted at your school from Enterprise. Do you still have support for your SAN/ Clustering? If you need further consulting please let me know as i may be able to put you in touch with companies or assist myself. You may have networking issues, certainly resolving any issues with your firewall to allow Solus to update would save you money for people having to come out.
