Guess it's time I introduced myself (only just found this thread!). I've been browsing Edugeek for 2 - 3 years now, signed up as a member in July 2009 and finally did the decent thing and got us to sponsor a forum this week. Behind the Red Door is the most entertaining forum - so it was a natural for us to sponsor it. All of us at Silicon Alley get a lot of fun out of Edugeek and I am trying to persuade more of my colleagues to sign up and contribute. I see a lot of network managers and ICT technicians in our customers and most of them use Edugeek. Those that don't - I tell them to get on here to get help with their (technical) problems.

The best known - and most robustly built - trolleys are LapSafe. Although they do come at a high price. In your environment I would recomend that you look at the Monarch LapCabby range. They do not have all of the options that LapSafe have and they are not as robust as LapSafe, but they certainly do the job and are more affordable. What they do have going for them is that they have rubber corner bumpers and handles as well as rounded edges which would be safer for EDB students. I am sure that your usual local supplier can get these for you, or you can contact the manufacturer direct on 0115 982 1771 and ask them who your local reseller is. (It's not going to be us - we're miles away!)

Rob - fair comment, a nice looking bit of technology is good. However - I have a set of external speakers plugged into my DAB radio in my kitchen - and another set on my cd/alarm next to my bed and a big set in my living room. I've got a USB transmitter (Logitech I think) that I occasionally plug into my laptop with a small mains powered receiver that I plug in to the speakers scattered around the house so I can listen to music of my choice from Spotify - and occasionally an Internet radio station. Not the right solution for everyone - but it works for me!

Just a thought, but is there any reason why you can’t use a PC? It doesn’t need to be a high performance one – so an old one will do it. As long a it has a sound card in it you can connect to external speakers. You can then connect to any Internet radio station and other services like Spotify if you just want music.

Thanks for the mention Toby, just like to correct the spelling though! I have seen on the forum some fairly well deserved rants about certain company’s remanufactured cartridges (and service), but buying remanufactured cartridges is not like shopping around for originals. You tend to get what you pay for. The really cheap remans can be a false economy by the time you take in to account the time wasted replacing faulty ones and cleaning the printer out, and then trying to get a credit for the cartridge. Just a quick plug (if that’s OK) - our Inkwell service can provide remans as well as originals. If you get a failure we will swap it without quibbles and not charge you for it – so no hassles with RMA’s or credit notes, and if it dumps toner in your printer we will get an engineer out to clean it. If it wrecks the printer (unlikely, but possible) we will replace the printer.
