The above method wouldnt work for me. I loaded direct from CD with SP1 (didn't install service pack on Windows 7) Check out this guide for getting RSAT onto Windows 7 SP1, especially useful if you cant uninstall the service pack because you didnt install in the first place. We have a microsoft campus agreement (Enterpise CAL's). Is it possible to use this on machines that we own, irrespective of there location? Basically we are opening a new campus but we are leasing the property and dont know if this has any bearing on our license agreement. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Hi all, I have installed SCOM to monitor some of our more business critical systems, however I am having a few issues in actually getting it to do anything At the moment I am trying to get it to just monitor some DFS replication servers, now I have configured the management pack, run as accounts and the profiles, however nothing appears to be been monitored. In the service health for DFS there are no alrts (good or bad) its as though the system just doesn't want to acknowledge that I have told it that the servers are DFS hosts. Any idea's? Mike

This issue has now been resolved. Turns out that we needed to disable the users mailbox in our local exchange install. This removed certain attributes from the AD account and allowed the ILM Agent to pass all of the filter checks and create the remote mailbox. Thanks for your help Mike

Thanks for that, that guide is something I wish I had two weeks ago!! I have taken a look and it seems you are right, GET-MAILBOX returns an error of the user not been found but GET-MAILUSER returns a value. Any idea how I can configure my setup to change this for future imports? Mike

Hi, Having a problem and there isn't much on the internet in the way of support on this one. I have successfully setup Identity Manager 2007 with OLSync and the Password Change Notification Service to export local domain accounts out to Outlook live to allow our students to connect use "Live" as there email account. However when signing in with the test account we have, I get a message stating that "A mailbox could not be found for [email protected]" Now I have checked the admin centre and sure enough there is no mailbox, but the user is been imported as it is allowing me to login. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Mike

We did ours from a WDS deployment so no CD at all. I suppose there is the slight chance that the driver we used is already in our driver store for another machine. I will have a look tomorrow. Mike

Yeah, what do you have to lose really now, when i did the BIOS update i reinstalled windows anyway, didnt think of trying it before lol

Did you try reinstalling Win7 once you did the BIOS update?

hmm, its been a while since I loaded Windows 7 onto one of these so maybe there was an extra step, im having a flash back to needing to change a BIOS setting after doing the update. Something related to "SATA Legacy mode" or along those lines. im not back in the office until Wednesday but I will try and find that model machine and take a look for you then. I doubt getting a 3rd party boot loader will help as this is definatley a problem related to SATA within the BIOS. Have another look in your BIOS for anything related to SATA or Serial ATA, im sure it was some sort of Legacy mode the more I think about it. I can try getting a ghost image for you but i dont think thats going to be any help :-( Mike

I used a DOS boot disk from bootdisk.com Its important that you ensure that the version of DOS that is booted does not use HIMEM, the flashing application doesn't work if HIMEM is enabled. I dont remember off the top of my head how I did this but a quick google should solve that one. Once I was booted in to DOS, I simply ran the .BAT file that comes with the BIOS ROM and it updated. Hi Sorry to have dragged this one back up. I had already done that. The problem appears to be that within the database, the report is looking at the time closed in its "on-time" measure rather than time resolved. Mike

We are running 2010 alongside 2007 using App-V (SoftGrid). 2007 is locally installed and 2010 sequenced. We encountered an error during install on the sequencing machine. Turns out that you have to remove 2007 before you can install 2010, in spite of the fact that you are supposed to be able to do a side by side install. The error in question is: "Error 1407, setup cannot get the value names for the registry key...." As stated above, uninstall 2007, install 2010 and it works. You can then run them both on client machines, one locally installed, one virtualised. Mike

Really, was that a decision forced upon you by SMT or something that the IT department at your place suggested? It just seems with the vast majority of industry using a version of MS Office as there office package, to remove the avialability of that from students seems a little short sighted. Im not knocking your idea, just wandering how you came to it? Mike

Hi everyone, I know WebHelpdesk is quite popular with those on this forum. We have been using it wit great success since March 09 now, we are really happy. One problem though. We are trying to generate an SLA report (jobs closed within the specified time dependant on the Priority of the job) There is a built in measure on the WebHelpDesk reporting panel called "on-time status". This shows the number of jobs that were set to the status of "Closed" in realtion to weather or not they were closed within there SLA. The problem we have is that we also use the "Resolved" status type. The process we follow is JOB OPENED - Status = OPEN JOB FIXED BY TECH - Status = RESOLVED EMAIL SENT TO CUST TO CONFIRM RESOLUTION = If they confirm STATUS = CLOSED EMAIL IGNORED = Status goes to closed after 2 days after RESOLVED Now the on-time measure only checks the date closed against the date due. So if we resolve a call on-time but the customer doesn't confirm this, it can go past its due date whilst its in the 2 day waiting period. Anyone have any tips on getting a report to get round this? Just a word of warning form someone who has just struggled with Skype in our environment. We are running Microsoft Threat Management Gateway 2010 (TMG2010) as our Web Filter and Firewall (ISA2006 repalcement) Skype primarily uses P2P technology to connect and communicate with other users. Part of this means that it quite happily uses a random port to connect to the IP address of the client which you are communicating with. Obviously you can tell Skype in the settings to only use a specific port but still a firewall rule has to be created to allow that port access to any IP address external to your network. To get around this, Skype can 'fall back' to using HTTPS over port 443. This is where our problem arises. TMG2010 has has a nifty ability to inspect HTTPS traffic to ensure that it is what it says it is. Obviously Skype isnt true HTTPS traffic, therefore TMG blocks it. You can disable the HTTPS inspection, but this means that in TMG you are also disabling the filtering of all HTTPS web traffic, so its possible to access blocked sites, for example http://HTTP://playboy.com is blocked as pornography, but http://HTTPS://playboy.com is accessible. Not the best really! Its my opinion that Skype is not suitable for anything other than personal, home use. In a corporate or educational environment where the protection of data and\or the protection of minors is paramount, Skype is a pain in the back side! Bear with me, its a longwinded one!! I am trying to create a new dynamic distribution group with a custom filter using Powershell commands I have created the following group new-dynamicdistributiongroup -name "HE Students" -includedrecipients mailboxusers -organizationalunit "walcat.ac.uk/E-Mail Groups" I then set the filter to pick up only students with certain words in the "Description" attribute of there AD accounts. set-dynamicdistributiongroup -identity "HE Students" -notes "HE Students Only" -recipientfilter {Description -eq "*HND*" -or Description -eq "*Higher*"} -recipientcontainer "student.walcat.ac.uk/student accounts" This all works, or at least appears to, there are no nasty red error messages. I now try to list the members of these groups $HESTUDENTS = Get-DynamicDistributionGroup -identity "HE Students" get-recipient -recipientpreviewfilter $HESTUDENTS.recipientfilter Nothing is displayed, its like the group is completely empty. Microsoft don't make it easy do they! We are looking at implementing the new Forefront suite of tools\applications. So far we have managed to work out Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) - Licensed like ISA2006, per processor in server Forefront Web Filtering - Licensed on an employee equivalent CAL basis However, Forefront Protection Suite (Anti Virus) - HELP!!! I have heard conflicting stories. Its clear that the client end needs to have CAL's, there is also a Forefront Management Console (Same as McAfee EPo). I have been told you need to buy the same amount of CAL's for that also, this doesnt seem right, surely you'd just buy 300 Client CALS and 1 or 2 Management CAL's for the server(s) ? Any idea's??? Hi Mart, We have two ways we normally do things like this. 1. We have a citrix environment which allows us to provide access to Remote Desktop using a published application through the Citrix Web Access Environment. 2. (Simpler) Use an app called TeamViewer. TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet This allows remote access using HTTP traffic and is usually able to negotiate most corporate firewalls. It may not be allowed on your setup but its worth a go. Hope this helps Mike
