Plugged into a windows box VIA USB, but laptops can detect the Rally setup via Bluetooth and use the device as an "Room Audio" appliance when starting the meeting.

Logi Rally all the way. We have several of the standard bars and 2 of the RallyPlus setups. They consistently just work. We use them with Teams.

No failures yet, we are only deploying these to laptops which use USB for charging, if you need to plug in a separate power cable and a USB cable for the dock, we just use some old USB3.0 type A docks we have in stock. Thankfully, no Macbooks to worry about. I imagine they would require there own special docking station which cost around £200+, look very similar to a £50 one, but importantly, have an Apple logo on them :-)

I don't think you need to do HTTPS inspection to effectively filter your guest WiFi. What we do is use our student web filtering rules, default block any sites that have not yet been categorized by our filtering solution, and enforce safe search on the main search engines via DNS. The downside is that we cant get Search Engine queries as they are HTTPS protected, but the combination of safe search and URL blocking appears to be enough, I don't know what people using the Guest Wifi are using as long as they cant get to it. Other simpler options could be enforcement of safesearch via dns and\or push your unknown DNS queries to a filtered service (https://blog.cloudflare.com/introducing-1-1-1-1-for-families/), there are others available, but this one seems adequate.

+1 SteamDeck, get the cheaper model and self install a bigger NVME drive, its really easy. Dual boot Win 11 to get around any anti-cheat concerns or just remove SteamOS and use Win 11, I do this for Fortnite, works fine. We've had plenty of different one's over the last 18 years. Its always the same story, promise the world at tender point, deliver something short of that at contract start date, by mid term you are finding yourself wondering how these guys are any better than the previous ones and at the end of the term, you swear to never go near them again. They are all the same, I would recommend our incumbent, but I am not happy with them. I think you just need to go with the cheapest and at least you can tell yourself you are not being fleeced.

Good morning, I am looking to engage with a few installers regarding an upcoming project involving Cameras (fixed and PTZ), speakers and a headset mic. Three camera's, live feed on a loop (showing the three feeds one after the other) out to a display panel in an adjoining room. The headset mic is for a presenter to talk through what is happening on the feeds. Can anyone recommend some installers located in the midlands ideally but I don't mind going further afield. Thanks

Another vote for SnipeIT. I have leveraged the API and some shutdown scripts to automatically add\update domain joined Windows devices. Mobile devices (Phones mainly) are a manual process but once you have the bulk imported, its manageable.

IT Manager for another FE College here (14000 students, 4500 devices) I have always shy'd away from 1:1 devices, especially for students. The ratio in my opinion doesn't work. What happens when a student forgets the device? the obvious solution is to have a bank of spares available, but how many, how do you track them etc... I am much happier sticking with desktop PC's in the classrooms and staff rooms. Also there is the useful life to think about. A modern ish PC with SSD\NVME drives, 8-16GB RAM and 500GB disk should be lasting at least the length of a standard 5 year warranty if not more (IMO a realistic age is probably 5-7 years) Laptops.... lets be honest, 5 years is asking a bit much for a laptop, the battery would probably be toast if not other components. So you are going to have to up your refresh cycle from every 5 years to every 3 which is going to add costs. Talking of costs. A decent laptop nowadays, minimum of what... £500-700. I would expect a PC of the spec i mentioned above to be nearer the £350-550 mark. So on top of your increased refresh cycle, also increase unit costs. I know, cost isnt everything, and 1:1 may end up working for you, but IMO its expensive for not a huge, if any benefit.
