Our kids get more frustrated when things don't work. Thats when we get the vandalism issues. (Mainly laptop damage)

Is it just me, or has car insurance got reeeeeally expensive recently?
PeteM replied to maniac's topic in General Chat
My car premiums with Direct Line were going up every year despite not making any claims so I swapped to Morethan and saved about 60%. The last 2 renewals haven't increased by more than a couple of %. Pet Insurance with Direct Line has gone up drastically but due to the age of one of my dogs I can't change it now. For a company that says they pass the savings of NOT being on price comparison sites I think their advert is a bit misleading. -
63000 flights were cancelled worldwide in the first 4 days-so even 0.1% risk is a lot

3 here - not bad looking at some of the other posts

I've always found easily.co.uk pretty efficient

Interesting point made there - I keep getting emails from Peachworx telling me that my Powerout license will have expired and that I need to buy their product. I recall paying a one-off fee for Powerout about 3 years ago and Vsionsoft never bothered me about annual renewals

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but thought I'd post it anyway Symptom; When using IE8, Windows Update site crashes with a "Instruction at 0x07f**** referenced memory at 0x07f****" message when checking for ActiveX controls, after installing XP SP3 and/or IE8 Fix; Go to IE8/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security & Uncheck Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks.

I had a look on the Lasertech site. Their compatible toners are more expensive than what I'm paying for genuine HP toners on a couple of models and way more than I pay for other brand compatibles (which have a no-quibble lifetime warranty). They're nearer the mark on A3 toners (but still slightly more expensive)

Happy to help and hope you enjoy the experience

1 thing we've just discovered. You need to change the permissions on 2 files for this to all work. firefox.cfg which resides in Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS and local-settings.js which resides in Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/defaults/pref. They need the file permissions (chmod) amended to 777 according to my tech or the changes don't get picked up for other users.

Hi We have some Macs running Leopard (on our Win2003 domain) and are trying to set the proxy for all users in Firefox 3.5. I've read this thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mac/9026-firefox-macs.html and have overwritten the prefs.js in the Firefox.app folder with the one from my profile but this doesn't work. The file shows the correct proxy/homepage settings but each time a user logs on they have to set the proxy manually again. Is there an easy way to get Firefox to retain the proxy and homepage settings for each user that logs on to the Macs without them having to constantly set them manually? Thanks Pete

When we had it, Macromedia Contribute- Godawful piece of crap. I concur with the opinions of most of the other software already mentioned.

I enjoyed it, laughed out loud in a few places, thought it was quite well acted. Not perfect but worth 90 minutes of my life

It looks like they're implying that easycap is a cheaper version of ezcap.

Kind of on topic, I've been told categorically by our Union rep that if the IT providor of our new BSF school needs, say, 5 IT techies and there are 7 currently in the 2 schools that are merging, then on Day 1 the IT company can make 2 redundant making TUPE irrelevant. Any comments on that?

Dies anyone have any experience of being TUPE'd over to Civica under BSF? Just trying to get some general info Thanks

I've uninstalled AVG9 at home. For the first time ever I've picked up a couple of nasties which has never hapopened with AVG before, plus v9 makes my laptop run like a 3 legged tortoise Currently trying Kaspersky Internet Suite on a 30 day trial - so far so good

When I goto that site I get redirected to Windows Live and the login page displays correctly

Had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Billing the relevant Department for any missing RAM or vandalism charges soon stopped 99% of the vandalism. The Depts had to pay up and everyone suddenly became extrememly vigilant. The Dept Heads would also take time to check up on the ICT suites that had supply teachers in. If it's not practical to bill the departments for the total cost, making them pay something might focus them

Not really sure if this is the right forum but I'm having issues with a couple of P500 & R500 laptops where the only function keys that work are the + & - volume ones. I have reinstalled Samsung's magic keyboard software but they still won't play. Have checked the BIOS for any switches and can't see anything. I've googled Magic keyboard probs but can't find anything definitive. Has anyone got a fix so that the blue keys will work? Thanks

Hindsight is great tho & these are the first Macs we've ever had in school. Anyhow as of this morning we've got them working & logging on as they should now
