  3. I just thought I'd put my 2 cents in, with chat function sometimes you have to worry a bout what they are typing and to who, bullying can be big in schools so these are the measure I have used. Live@EDU gives you option have a msn gateway to work with school live accounts. Live is free for K-12 schools, well in Australia so please read more on Live site for your region information. and just use total traffic control or something similar to monitor chat, even go as far as monitoring emails sent using anti bullying modules with other applications than ttc. Cheaper alternative you could setup a linux box and ircd server. Hope this can help you out making decision. Cheers, Phil
  4. I personally like to use wpad scope option in DHCP. Create a WPAD Entry in DHCP little how to on setting it up, just use a js script like proxy.pac examples on the net, try not to make script to complicated and put on a webserver where it can be accessed. By default IE explorer is set to automatically detect connection. When a dns request is initiated it will use scope option to grab and cache wpad.dat settings. if you change settings then it can take time for cached settings to apply so try to get it right the first time. Hope this helps Cheers, Phil
  5. Using =CONCATENATE() can help as well. Cheers, Phil
  6. Back in the day before altiris I used Workstation Name Changer - wsnames.exe to get my machines setup. But yeah if you have a vbs script and want it to run at first start up and disappear put a path to script in registry under local machine in 'run once'. Normally I have the script sit on c: drive 'wsnames' or in Windows directory. Cheers, Phil

  8. Hi, I recently just finished adding users and groups to my Live@EDU site. I have made up how to for live@edu administration - Live@EDU Outlook Live – How to get started Really just put together tutorials and m$ outlook live help from the net and made my own instructions. 9. Hi guys/gals I am currently working on Live@EDU for our school and a by product of work using powershell have put together a couple of scripts using ADSI, Quest cmlets and CSV file to do bulk AD jobs i.e. like make mail EN distribution groups and add users to groups etc. I have only made scripts I've needed so hope to build that up. I have made up how to for live@edu administration - Live@EDU Outlook Live – How to get started Most of the time scripts are written for IT in the know. What I would like to do is collaborate & slowly put technical jibberish code snippets together with easy to read language; well that is the goal. I have some old VB scripts that may be useful as well but its more audit based than user creation, I never really like VB, way to clunky. Mainly use administration program such as Adventnet, Altiris etc, but unfortunately not affordable to some. I'm not really on here much and post to my site mainly but I do like searching this forum and adding helpful links where approriate. I send a lot of my projects to my predecessor at NT Catholic Education so if you're in that area they might have some info. Cheers, Phil
  10. Oh okay well hit it with a hammer and see how it goes lol. But seriously give it a bang around the printer with your hand and see if that helps, works on cars and computers Not sure what else, maybe buy a new printer?
  11. I was skimming through this post and might of read it a bit quickly initially. Have you replaced the toner cartridge? Cheers, Phil
  12. Are you printing via the PC or pressing the Go button and the printer is pushing out configuration pages? I'm thinking along the lines of getting rid of middle man and printing it from the source. Putting it out there but maybe a driver problem and its not parsing the information via PCL, PCL5e, PCL6, PDL etc? Cheers, Phil
  13. A good free solution I customised for Northern Territory Catholic Education Schools back in the day was made using Smoothwall. They have a VM Image for VMWare ready and ISO for CD install. Cheers, Phil
  14. How did you do the hard reset? - leave bay door open, turn on printer holding GO button until printer stops flashing and amber light comes on, turn off, turn on with bay doors closed? Your question about whether if you can see a gap between photoconductor roller and the toner I had a quick look at one of ours and I cannot see a gap. I'm no printer expert however a suggestion if I may... Is the fuser getting hot? An example: HowStuffWorks "How Laser Printers Work" Cheers, Phil
