Yes they shouldn't have a problem replacing these. Personally I would just keep the OS on the local machines and then use the SAN storage for the VM's. One thing to note is you have 4 servers running of 2 PSUs (although very powerful). You need to ensure you have UPS redundancy otherwise you will kill everything. If you are looking for low cost SAN solutions which provide Active-Active Configurations Open-E is very easy to use and setup. an Active-Active cluster can be setup in around 25 mins with no single point of failure and MPIO on the san enviroment (requires two servers, lots of nics with Open-E installed and a couple of switches)

They would be the ones - seen the intel onces at the Open-E Training last week (I believe your a partner too?). See other post And not using SSD's using SD cards (4/8gb) for ESXI install thats all then sans for data storage.

Saw the intel ones in the flesh last week. Have to say they looked pretty cool. Essentially a similar spec to the DL360 just in a much smaller space. Ideal if you need high CPU/Ram requirements and just use SANS for storage. and just boot Sata Doms or SD cards. Intel have also just released a new 24 2.5" storage device which is supposed to run Open-E well (its being sent to Open-E to be certified). Although for a large SAN a 4U 72 2.5" bay SuperMicro Chassis could be awesome running Open-E

basicly with Server 2012 if you purchase the datacenter version you are then entitled to run as many vm's are you require on a two socket server. If you have 3 virtual hosts then you need to buy 3 datacenter licenses you can run as many vm's as you like on three hosts.

Wait a week and buy server 2012 licenses (you can use 2008) and its so much more cost effective.

If you actually look at the usage you are using. On my Samsung S3 - I would class myself as a medium/heavy user (4 email accounts synced - facebook, twitter and updates are done via 3g etc etc). I used 1.6Gb of data from 16 Sept to 16th Oct with 850mb of that being when I was using it as a Tether.

TBH the initial surge of people using it will mean the service gets swapped. Once its a bit more mainstream I think it will be ok IMHO.

Not bad price! I've been looking at the new Intel and SuperMicro Chassis which support are a bit like blades although they only share power for a upcoming VDI project I have where rackspace is a premium. Normally I would just stick with the HP DL360's.

You should be able to setup a SQL agent job to run a backup to a local drive partition - back this up using any other backup software You then need to take a copy of the Simsroot folder (say once a week as not much changes) and the docstorage share. The doc storage is more important,

Which Chassis did you use?

We didn't have an SLA as such where i used to work. Although it was clearly laid out in the Staff Handbook and the priority at which items got fixed. It was something like 1. Exams 2. IT room with more then 4 desktops down 3. Single Computer used for Teaching 4. IT room with less then 4 machines down (they would just have to share and with 31 machines in a classroom normally classes were slightly smaller anyway). 5. Administration Staff (bumped up order normally just not officially ) 6. everything else It was agreed by SLT and put into place. It then stated everything should be sent to the helpdesk so that a priority for each job could be assigned (although it never was on paper). EDIT: we also had it stated that if a ticket was not responded to by the member of staff in 2 working days then it would be closed - although this winds staff up it makes them pay attention to the emails.

install the vmware converter on it and take a copy - KVM will boot the VMDK. You've always then got it as fallback VMware vCenter Converter, Convert Physical Machines to Virtual Machines Its free. I've set it up a few times and its rather fidderly with the underlying permissions.

I thin it creates a log in the user profile on the local machine? sslexplorers is called .sslexplorer. And are you trying to rdp from internal as it never worked properly that way
