Hi, We use iMacs networked with a Mac Pro running OS X Server for managing accounts, locking out preferences/applications, printing quotas, network storage, software distribution, software updates, 'ghosting', drop boxes for the students to submit work to, remote desktop, pulling screens up onto a teacher laptop/plasma screen and quality speakers for demonstrating work, and visa versa for demonstrating techniques to students. For an interface, I went with the MAudio Keystudio 49i (there are bigger versions if you have the room) and they're working really well. Mic and line inputs, and a midi keyboard in one unit, with two phones sockets for working in pairs or plugging a teacher set in as you walk round.

Yeah Logic Pro is the apple sequencer of choice. It's fantastic in a lab environment as it's very high quality and really easy to get on with. Superb software instruments and loop library means better output with minimal 'setup' time. Also, it's reasonably priced... £1200 for a bulk 500 licence package, 50 of which can be off site if needed.

Hi Guys, I have a weird problem... I'm running a new suite of 22 iMacs from a new MacPro Server, all up to date. I've got it all set up fine so that I can manage preferences, dock, printing, new accounts etc. but when I come to manage the applications that I want to allow, it actually works in reverse. In other words, I check the 'always' manage button, I add an application to the 'allowed' list, but when I log in as that user, it is now the only application that I can't run. I go back in, remove the application from the 'allowed' list, log back in as that user and it works now. Where are the wires getting crossed here?! Obviously I could go in and add all the apps that I want to Disallow, but that can't be right surely? Thanks, Gareth

We've just installed 22 20"iMacs with Reason, Sibelius and Logic Pro 8, a mac pro server to manage those, and another mac pro to run the ProTools HD studio. I would recommend all of the above, it's an awesome setup.
