Just spoke to the Exam board and the solution is....... The candidate hand writes the name/candidate information etc on each sheet as they collect them from the printer! They were a bit cagey about it though and did not really want to specify a 'standard' way to do it,which I think is ridiculous!!

LOL! Yes i was going to contact the Exam board but my colleague is in a meeting at the moment so I cant be noisy on the phone. I will see what they say though as I agree, they should have reccomendations. Thanks for the heads up about GPO, that would be my prefered method. Will have a dig for that thread.

But does Wordpad seperate pages? Isnt it just one long document as far as the user can tell?

That would be fantastic, thank you. The more research I do here seems to suggest that currently our candidates print the document immediatly at the end of the lesson. If I try and get them to change this process I know that it wont be accepted easily!

The board is JCQ. I have a hard copy of the document but unfortunatly cannot find the exact PDF on the JCQ website to post a link. It might be possible for the exams officer to transfer the written text after the exams, you are right. It just concerns me that the way that the document is written defintely suggests that this process should be done by the candidate and that they should use the word processor "where it is thier normal way of working within the centre"

Hi all, (Windows 7, Office 2007 soon to be Office 2010) For a while now we have had an 'Examination' user which has been used for Exams when a pupil requires a Word Processor for an exam. This user ONLY has access to Wordpad and cannot access any other programs or the internet etc. This arrangement has been fine for a couple of years, but one of our learning support officers has now told us that the specifications from the exam board state that: * The candidate MUST be able to ensure that thier Name, centre number, candidate number and paper details appear on each page page as a header/footer. * The candidate MUST NOT have access to a spell check tool Our previous arrangment with Wordpad was fine as it did not have a spell checker, but as far as I can tell you cannot enter a header/footer in Wordpad. How do other schools achieve this? Do you use Word and disable Spell Check via GPO? Many thanks

hmmm strange, well I decided to try Firefox portable instead. That seemed to work nicely! Will just go with that instead I think

Hi all, One of our teachers has a consistant weird problem while trying to access a particular website which contains teaching materials. We use IE has standard and have to stick with version 8 as it is the only thing that works properly with our intranet (dont ask!). I had the idea of offering a second browser just to this one user, then I found Google Chrome portable. Quite rightly we disable running .exe's from memory sticks so I thought that I could put it in a shared location and the user could run it from there. I have tried this and although the software seems to launch without problem it then seems to hang. I have also tried installing it to USB and sharing that, but the same thing happened. Has anyone had any luck running Google Chrome Portable across a network in this manner?

I can try and work out how do it that, but normally when there are authentication errors/messages, this comes up in the log. Nothing comes up for these two sites at all

Hi All, I wonder if you can help with a problem we have with our sonicwall NSA 3500. We are in the process of switching from our old ISA connection to our new sonicwall connection. Our users cannot seem to access the following two websites when connecting through our sonicwall device. ActivTest Intelligent Simulation Testing - IISB http://www.bcsmosiac.com If these users connect through our ISA connection, the website loads without a problem. If however they attempt to connect using our sonicwall connection the page 95% of the time fails to load. We do not get an sonicwall errors just a generic "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Every now and then however the site DOES load. These websites are essential to us as a school as our pupils need to access them to take exams. This problems is unfortunately preventing us to fully moving all our users onto our sonicwall connection and we are eager to get rid of our ISA connection. I have monitored the sonicwall log and no warnings or messages seem to appear when accessing these websites. I have also spoken to the company that runs these websites and there is nothing that they can think of which would prevent us from accessing their website. Are you able to suggest anything that might be causing this problem? Or is there anyway for the sonicwall NSA to report what the problem is?

Hi all, I am just in the process of configuring Xibo digital signage for our school. I am just starting to think about the best way to introduce this to the admin staff that are actually going to do the administration and put up the daily notices etc. Has anyone got any tips on how to make things as easy as possible for the staff that will do the admin? I understand that it may be possible to create a user with restricted access so that they dont see all the menu's etc, but I have not quite worked out how to do this yet. What about Styles for inputting the text? Is it possible to personalise these and save our own styles? We will be using white text on our setup and have noticed that annoyingly the text editors background is also white so it can make things a little confusing for those people who are not 100% confident in thier IT abilities! Any tips on making it as easy to possible for non IT staff to use would be appreciated. many thanks

Hi all, When attempting to create a sub group within my advertisements (to keep everything neat and tidy) I recieve the following error: 'Error: Assembly not found' I have in the past successfully managed to create groups, but now it has stopped working. To be honest I dont really know anything about Moodle. Unfortunatly our school is well behind in that area and we need to not just catch up, but jump ahead. My colleague is looking into it at the moment so he was just interested. Anyway I am going to go ahead with a VM and give it a try Many thanks to everyone

Is Windows Server advisable or a Windows 7 machine? Can i use a virtual machine?

Hi all, We have been using a paid for solution for digital signage which has, quite frankly, been a bit of a disaster. I am hearing and reading a lot about Xibo and I think it might be the solution for us. Firstly, its been years and years since I have ever done anything with Linux. I understand that the system was originally developed for Linux but there is a Windows version available. Does the Windows version work well? It would defenitly be my preference to stick with a Windows server solution if possible. Also, does it 'plug in' to Moodle in anyway? I must admit I dont know too much about Moodle but it is something that we will be introducing in the near future and my colleague asked the question. Thanks all!
