That is interesting, thanks...I dont know anything about Cubase...will look into it. This whole thing was setup by an external company and the IT department were never informed that it was being installed. Of course the music dept then wanted the computers to be on our domain which we obliged with....but then the outside company washed thier hands of the system becuase we broke the terms of the warranty :-(. The creative sound card has 5 inputs but none seem to work as 'line in'. There is a line in on the onboard soundcard and in fact I am now using this as the best quality arrangment I can find is using the line in on the onboard card and the headphone/speaker jack on the creative card. However according to the music teacher (who knows about these things) there is a slight delay on pressing the keys on the keyboard and actually hearing it.

Hi all, I am looking for some help with our Audio/Sibelious/USB Keyboard setup. Ok here is the setup: Win 7 Sibelious 6 Creative SB0770 sound cards Yamaha keyboard with USB connection The problem is the quality of sound through the PC when using the keyboard. The Keyboard is connected to the Microphone port of the creative sound card and the headphones are connected to the headphone port on the creative soundcard. This allows the pupils to 'play along' with the music as they listen through the headphones. I have tried loads of different versions of the creative driver as well as using the Windows 7 native driver and the sound quality is just awful. I am just waiting on delivery of a fairly decnt USB soundcard with loads of inputs so will see if that helps but I am not holding out too much help. Can anyone think of an alternative setup to this? I think the problem lies with the keyboard being connected to the microphone port, and it just can't hack it. Help please! this is driving me mad! Thank you

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered before...I did have a look but could not find anything. Is there a way to silenty install the workstation client 'simsinst.exe'? Either by GPO or by scripts? Any help would be much appreciated! Regards

Just to put my 2pence worth in.. ..we were with Litmus, but found so many problems with the fact that thier stuff is 'in application'. Others people see it as a benifit, but our system if pretty well locked down and we ended up with A LOT of permission problems etc. It also seemed to crash alot and we found thier support to be very poor. We moved over to active about 6 months ago and generally we are pleased. I personally like the administration system and the emulation feel of the software. The system is not perfect by a long way and i feel that the software could be improved as we do still get the occasional problem with it. They do have the occasional 'content' problem though. For example if there are 3 ways to do a task in Excel, all 3 might not work on the emulation. This throws some people as they think the system is not working correctly. Activ's support is pretty decent though, will normally get a reply to an email query within 24hrs and they are also good helping on the phone. The only problem really is the lack of the unlimited practise tests like we had on Litmus. The teachers really want this feature but Activ dont do it.

still cannot get it to work I dont know what I am doing wrong. 1.) I created a GPO 2.)I edited the GPo with the following setting: User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Attachment Manager. Edit the Policy "Inclusion list for low file types" and add *.lnk. 3.)I added the 'Logon' script kindly supplied by Rich (made the changes to include our domain and also saved as .vbs) to the GPO 4.) I assigned the GPO to a relevent user group for testing. But is still does not work Can anyone think of anything I might be doing worng? could something be overriding the changes that the script makes? .....going mad!

Hi all When a user logs on to our windows 7 machines, their profile look ata location within the 'netlogon' shared folder which contains the desktop and start menu shortcuts (all local shortcuts are disabled) Whenever a user tries to launch one of the shortcuts they are presented with the a warning 'do you want to open.......' (see attached file for the dialog box displayed) Is there a way with GPO/registry to disable this warning for .lnk files on a UNC path? Hi everyone, I have spent all day looking at this and am just confusing myself more and more so thought I would see if you guys could help! We have just deployed a number of Windows 7 PC's with Internet Explorer 8. I would like to change the default search provider from Bing to Google. We have 4 x Domain Controllers. 3 running server 2003 and 1 running 2008. I gather that this needs to be done by customising the inetres.admx and inetres.adml templates. However this is where I fall down! Where/how do I edit these templates? Do I configure these settings on a client pc then copy to the Domain controller? If this is correct, wont this overwrite any exisiting settings within those files. Help please! I have overloaded my brain today with this!

We might finally have a breakthrough! ...and it looks like nothing at all related to everything I was guffing on about! Looks like when I updated an HP driver on the print server recently, it also installed something called hpboid.exe, which is some kind of HP status server. There was about 10 instances of it running in processes.... just a quick google search for hpboid.exe suggests loads of issues with it causing delays etc. We have stopped the service's related, deleted the running processes and touch wood.....so far so good! Time will tell I guess. Thanks again for your help

I don't really want to start looking down the route of switching the script to a different method at the moment (wouldnt be up to me anyway!), but I will certianly try your other ideas. Just seems strange as the script appears to run perfectly fine on all machines for 95% of the time, they just randomly seem to have these blipps(its only started happening in the last few weeks) so im not sure changing/refreshing the 'Location' variable will help....especially due to the fact that most of the time it goes wrong, it will still connect to 1 of the printers which you would not expect if there was a problem with the 'Location' variable.

yeah must admit, I have been thinking about the a shortcut as a work around but its not ideal if we can avoid it. Also (as I just found out) sometimes you need to run the script up to 10 times to get the printer to appear....I am sure this must be some kind of time out or something. In regards to your first question, the printers that are connected should depend on the location in the school. For example: A Pc in the Library should have access to the 'Library Laser' and the 'Library Colour Laser': On the PC in Library we add the Envoronmental Variable 'LOCATION' with the value 'LIB' The script then looks for this 'LIB' and assigns it the appropriate printers. However, only the 'Library laser' was connected and not the 'Library Colour Laser'. Several manual script runs later, both printers will finally appear. I dont think it is a problem with the script as it has always run fine in the past, and it does work manually eventually. Hi all, I have just started a new job as an IT Tech in a school. We use a javascript (.js) logon script which connects to a set of network printers depending on the location of the PC. In the last couple of days, things has been playing up. Randomly printers will not connect. Sometimes all the printers and sometimes only 1 or 2 of the printers and sometimes none of the printers. I don’t think that it is a problem with the script, as it has been working fine previously. Also the fact that sometimes all the printers are connected fine and other times not suggests to me that it is more likely to be some kind of maximum connection problem or something. Anyway, i have been looking round the web for the last day or so without much luck.....has anyone got any ideas for things I can try? The only change recently is that I updated the driver for one of the printers on the server. Many thanks
