Erm. Fog service? Didn't know there was one - do you need to install this on the windows host that before you upload it? This could definitely be where I'm going wrong!!!

I don't seem to have a C:\fog.log file. I'm just doing another image now, this one has the support tools on it. I take it I need to run the sysprep on the client before I upload the image? Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the fast reply! I had assumed the support tools were on there - I had run all the updates and it was XP SP3. I'll double check when it reboots. I haven't used sysprep before, I'll give it a go. Do I run that on the host before I upload it as an image to FOG? Cheers!

Hi All, Having set up my first ever Fog server last week, I've managed to completely confuse myself on the subject of Hostnames. I uploaded my first image from a computer named B11-IWB. The image uploaded successfully, so I got hold the next machine of the same type to build. I booted into fog ,performed the Full Host Registration & Inventory, entered the Hostname as "SPARE-IWB-01". Filled out all the other applicable options, went into the fog web interface and set it to deploy the image to the new machine (which shows up in the host list as "SPARE-IWB-01"). Once it had successfully deployed, I boot it up and it all works fine - except its called B11-IWB. Why??? Ive told it what to call itself, it has a hostname, why would it name itself based on the original image? Is this something I've done wrong in taking the image, or does fog just do this regardless? Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance!!!

Hi, Do you need to make changes to the connect.ini file for Sims to work over a VPN connection? Our connect.ini in school looks like this and is held on the sims share (T:\) [sIMSConnection] ServerName=sims-01\SIMS2005f DatabaseName=sims CommandTimeout=100000 It works ok at the school, but over the VPN I get the "login error: reason 0" problem, which I have read can be down to a dodgy connect.ini. Since it works in house, I'm wonerding if we need to change it? I have tried swapping "sims-01" for the ip address, and adding a line at the top "server=ipaddress". Didn't work Any thoughts?

Hi all, Due to yet another start of term timetable nightmare, I've started cleaning all the old rubbish out of every part of SIMS I can get my hands on. This includes our course Manager, which has a massive list of old, inaccurate and just plain stupid courses to get shot of. But, with the Census coming up I made sure to set all the dubious courses to "Obsolete" rather than deleting them (lesson learned the hard way in the past). Apparently the Census reports on last year's courses too, and has no problem looking at courses that are set to "Active" or "Inactive". But I can't seem to find anything that says whether it can look at "Obsolete" courses. Anyone happen to know?

Heh, no this thing dates back to the Laptops for Teachers scheme!! Still annoying to lose it though, teachers "need" laptops after all, and with a budget of 7p, I doubt we can replace!

Nope! I used Ubuntu LiveCD, it didn't recognise any of them... I figure it has to be a hardware fault, but it seems odd to have fragged all 4 usb ports but nothing else on the board...

Dell Latitude D610. We've got a few of them, never had this problem before. All the drivers are installed, and were downloaded from the Dell website...

Thanks all!! Unfortunately nothing has worked, so I'm at wit's end. I've even taken it apart and checked connections on the motherboard. They looked ok, no sign of damage. Probably going to have to pull it out of circulation - with a usb adapter in the PCI slot it could be used again, but we'll hold it back as a spare. If anyone has any further brainwaves, they'll be appreciated!

No, in fairness I just disabled them in device manager and re-enabled them! Ill give that a go as soon as the AV scan is done.

Hi all, I'd like to say this is the first problem of term, but it really isn't!!! It is however, the first to get me confused (but it is monday, so it could just be me!) I have a laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3 that has randomly decided not to recognise any USB devices at all. No power, no flashing lights, nothing. It's the same on all 4 ports (they are split into pairs and are opposite ends of the case, so I don't think it is damage from being dropped). Everything else works fine. The system has all the latest MS updates, the drivers are installed ok (I tried disabling them and re-enabling them - no joy). It has an up-to-date AV running on access scanning so I don't think its likely to be a virus, but I'm in the process of a full system scan now to be certain. I have also checked the BIOS settings - I can't find anything wrong in there... All I can see on google is this: USB port may stop working after you remove or insert a USB device which doesn't seem to apply; basically I don't seem to have the USB registry key in that place. I figured that was a problem, but I have an identical laptop that works fine with all usb devices I throw at it, and it doesn't have that registry key either...! Any ideas?

Hmm, sorry we haven't made it to 2008 yet, can't help you. The only issue I had that threw out errors at that point was a permissions issue on Winbind - might be worth checking that /var/run/samba/winbind_privileged has been changed to the "proxy" group and that the group has execute access to it.

This is the guide I used - it authenticates users from AD for internet filtering. It is for Debian Etch, but I did it on Ubuntu 10.04 in March with hardly any issues. Good luck!!

Good thought! It does appear to be applying though, the GPO is StaffLaptops and the script is under the logon settings...

Ok, I'm a little confused about this. We have a vbs script that runs on the staff machines GPO under the User Configuration. So on login it wipes off any existing network printers, and adds in specific new ones. It works a treat. Ive just made another group for staff laptops that are going on the domain, andso are in a different OU (StaffLaptops). I copied the script, changed the specifics so it would work for the laptops we have and then logged in as a teacher to gave it a go. And nothing happened. No errors, nothing in logs. Nowt. I then tried running it manually from the home directory (still logged in as a teacher) and it worked perfectly. So it isn't a problem with the script. Confused, I logged in as an admin to run a gpupdate and the printers were therre - the script had worked! I ran the gpupdate anyway, restarted, logged in as the teacher again - nothing. That suggestes to me that it's a permissions issue, but the teacher account obviously has permissions to access and use the printers, because it showed up when I manually ran the script. So I guess theres a permissions for actually running the script itself on the GPO. But I can't find any settings like that... Any ideas?

Given that their accounts were limited (this wouldn't work on admin), I basically just turned it off and found the little tick boxes that say that you have to be and administrator to turn them back on! The ethernet one is set that way anyway - I just turned off dhcp and disabled the adapter (you automatcially have to be an administrtator to re-enable them), Airport as an option to make limit it to admins only. Sorted!!
