If I was TfL after all the strikes and ever increasing pay increase demands I would be looking at firing a load too as well as looking at getting fully automated systems like they have in other countries and on at least one london above ground line. They also need to invest in barriers between platform and track which only open when the train is in place to stop people getting onto the track or jumping in front of the train.

£30k? the average tube driver wage for a 40hour 4 day week is £40k and they also have annual pay increases The real deal breaker in the negotiations was apparently the late demand from the RMT that two sacked drivers be re-instated. Up until then the talks had been progressing well. The reason these two drivers were sacked? One opened the doors on the wrong side of the train and then lied about the safety checks he had done in his official reports. The other was sacked for theft from his employer and faces trial next month.

Bit of a strange one - S2K3 hangs when trying to open folder
Midget replied to jamin100's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
what antivirus are you using? I had this once with the antivirus suddenly deciding to scan all the information in that folder right then and there causing explorer to hang. Try turning off your antivirus first Otherwise you may have corruption, can you access it via a CMD prompt? Make sure that your backups have been able to store those folders too. -
that is a fantastic photo and deserves to become an internet meme

fit more grfx cards. if you add a PCI grfx card with 2 VGA headers (or 1VGA and 1 DVI or 2DVIs) in addition to whatever you have now, you can have 3 mointors. I used to have 8 monitors so I understand your desire

that was for a hitachi pen 2-3years ago
-
Smartboards can be used with anything, fingers etc hitachi and promethean require the use of their pen and theyre more acurate for it, but you'll have to make sure not to lose the pens because they're expensive to replace (~£100ea)

you'll need to put together a full document on current load (i assume youve been running some daily reports) and usage and how this will help aid the delivery in Teaching and Learning. Then do a full plan on how you will implement everything and that the old server will become a Ghost/RIS server dedicated to imaging machines reducing turn around time for fixing machines as they can just be wiped and imaged in 60min since you'll now be able to use Roaming profiles with nothing stored on the machine (doesn't really matter if you use them already, if bread manufactures can get away with 'now made with REAL yeast' you can get away with this). This will mean that what used to be a day at leasts downtime for that teacher will now only be a lesson* *assuming nothing else is more urgent or you are drinking a coffee, your milage may vary

can the server be upgraded? with those clients it'll be nowhere near CPU capacity, so can you add more RAM and storage? It'll require a weekend job to clone the RAID, put in new HDDs and ghost it back but it'll be quicker than a whole new domain build.

EduGeek is GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But won't you miss the teachers!? sorry couldn't keep a straight face. -
monkey> I agree entirely, people should be able to take what they know of one program and apply it to another, however the kids need jobs and if those jobs require "Word and Excel" and they haven't used them, they are going to be at a disadvantage. At least in the UK. And then you've got all those IT projects/exams that specify Access and Publisher One compromise is using linux with MSO under crossover Office, but the cost of that won't offer much of a saving over a winXP system. Else have both systems. XP/MSO where they require it (IT Dept etc) and nix/OOo where they don't. You just have to make sure that OOo is set to save as MSO filetypes by default.
-
Unfortunatelly for alot of low level office jobs here in the UK they only ask for experiance of Windows and MS Office and wouldn't count Linux/OOo, so you will have problems in that respect if a similar attitude is prevalent in SA. Also training for all staff to a level that they can do basic training with students will be fun for you. Thin clients might be a better option, if you DO have to stick with windows, for reducing costs.

rStudio is the 1st port of call for a DR engineer before trying other things. I assume (and hope) you have this HDD as a slave or USB attached to a different system and will be recovering to either the system's drive or a 3rd HDD. It may be stating the obvious but I've seen plenty of drives from people who've recovered their data back onto the drive they're in the process of recovering.

that's a fantastic idea! I seriously have no idea why they didn't do this sooner

i once pulled apart a toshiba laptop pulled the CMOS battery (try taking of the keyboard) and it still wouldn't reset, stripped it right down and found 6 backup batteries.

just use the synaptic package manager gui (under system) if you don't like ubuntu, try Mint, it's based on ubuntu but appears to be slightly more user friendly

As someone in the know, I wouldn't use fields if it was an urgent job, but send in for the 'free' analysis (to their head office), if they come back talking of split payment, then I wouldn't go ahead. The cost will be at least £400. Any company saying it'll be less than this is either a one person in back bedroom with a screwdriver, or just plain lying. And the fact that you've already done DIY work would reduce your chances, esp if you've opened it. Also board swapping alone wouldn't work you would need a board from the exact same model and batch, and to swap the ROM chips as well. and FFS the freezer trick doesn't work in most cases on modern drives and it's for motor seizures not general failures, will people who have no idea what they are doing stop doing it you are just reducing your chances of recovery.

why is a person with a tux avatar not running linux? I've tried vista and hated it. For business and personnal I still use XP (our CRM ran rubbishly in vista anyway) as well as Ubuntu (about to change over to Mint6 - give it a try)

try a KDE based distro (KUbuntu, Mint KDE, Fedora) and see if she likes it. just tell her it's windows vista apparently people cant tell
-
No. vista home is equiv to xp home and you cant downgrade to that Youre predecessor must have requested VHB because NSO wouldnt normally provide anything but XPPro or VistaBusiness/Premium

DP: they are flagged as "can be overwritten" so if you have used the drive since you will have corruption. and I've used UFSExplorer before, wasn't a huge fan but it has its uses. Also make sure you don't do anything stupid like recovering the files directly back to the NAS. you have to recover them to a different drive -

XFS is a right a**e to recover from. You are lucky that the NAS is working. WinHex is your friend for recovering from these
