Damn I would have put my house on that being the problem, Out of interest what version is your microsoft high definition bus driver component? Try to uninstall the device completetly "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" and run the sp2 update as above.

It may be worth trying to find out who makes it and see if they have a support forum ro support email. Also did you try the FS user forum?

My guess would be the High Definition Audio Bus Driver, this is a microsoft driver and is different for SP1 & SP2 (the Realtek High Def audio driver sits on this bus). Download the latest driver set from the realtek website and expand it out, you should have a MSHDQFE folder navigate to this then Win2K_XP\us , there will be 3x installer packages here that should look like this kb888111w2ksp4 - This is for Windows 2000 SP4 kb888111wxpsp1 - This is for Windows XP SP1 kb888111wxpsp2 - This is for Windows XP SP2 to test the theory run the installer for the sp2 one and see if it cures your problem. If all is well expand the contents of the update and browse to the commonfiles folder, here yu will find the driver files for the High Definition Audio Bus Driver SP2. The other machines were not affected because they dont have HD Audio so they didnt have the BUS driver to be messed up. Hope this helps, do let us know how you get on.

Yes existing RIS images can be used with WDS, if you install WDS on an existing RIS server that has at least one image on it WDS is installed as mixed mode. When you get the WDS boot menu there is an option for RIS images and it takes you to the old style RIS boot menu. I had a really quick play with this a month ago and I am going to have a look at it a bit this week.

Its definatly worth an install maybe on a test box just to have a look at, although it has the mixed mode I wouls have some reservations about installing it on our main RIS server. Mind you the download is almost 1GB but its the full tool kit with PE 2.0 WAIK etc.

Yoiu can actaully download WDS as part of the business desktop deployment suite of tools, I got as far as installing it playing with for about 30 mins before I had to get on with real work. Hopefully ggoing to have a proper play with it next week. You can run it in mixed mode which supports all your existing legacy RIS setup as well as the WDS stuff, I remenber I had a problem with WDS where the machine type detection didnt work correctly. AMD64 systems seemed to get assigned x64 images but some EMT64 capable intel 805 based systems were filtered through as x86, you are supposed to be able to turn the machine type filtering off through a reg key but the key in the document wasent present in the install. Hopefully I will have plenty of time next week to have a proper look. Peter

Hi, Yes the nvidia network solution isent fantastic (you ever tried to use the 2 part ndis driver lol) The RIS drivers are technically under NDA and difficult to find on the web (you cant use the standard nvidia ethernet driver package as the network controller sits on its own bus NVNETBUS which must be loaded first) I have tested the special RIS driver and can confirm shock horror it can be made to work (there is an old version kicking round on the net but Asus put the new driver version on some recent CDs), if anybody would like it let me know and I will upload it and post a link. As mentioned above a 7600GT sounds about right for you, out of interest what CPU & memory setup do you have? You may want to hold off investing in an AGP graphics card and save up a bit more and get yourself a new mainboard cpu and possibly ram as well as a PCI express graphics card. Your games might get bottle necked by your current cpu and you will need to upgrade your cpu & mainboard anyway but will probaly end up needing the change to PCI express.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with your DVD recorder, if it were me I would just make up some kind of proof of purchase myself. They will have no way of checking it at all they are just going to look at the date. If you want please pm me and I can knock something up for you to fax to them. Did you pay for the item on a card? If so you can provide them with a copy of your statement which they should except. LiteOn happen to make excellent optical drives but did have a lot of problems with thier first models of set top recorders which is one of the main reasons thye started setting up thier regonal support centers. If you had purchased some other budget make you might not even have direct manufacturer support and only a 12 month warrnaty with your reseller (which would probbaly be less than usefull).
