Filtering Issue that needs attention
mwalpole replied to round2it's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Hi round2it, I read the thread and Smoothwall have added http://www.blazingcatfur.ca/ to the block list adult filter. I have tested this this morning, following their change and it is now blocked for us. Kind regards Marc -
Thats right FN-GM I booked through Pearson, but I did the exam at Sheffield North CLC without doing the course first.

The last Cisco exam I sat was at Sheffield North CLC, I only did the exam didn't do the course there. It was a couple of years ago now though, but it may be worth giving them a call.

Internet issue 16th October
mwalpole replied to mwalpole's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Hi, We have had notification from Janet that it they had no further issues after 12:30 BST on the 16th of October. Unfortunately, with this being a denial of service attack on our upstream provider, we have no control over if this will happen again. We do send out notification emails, as well as updating this and our twitter feed when we have an issue. If you wish to be added to the notification email group, please PM me your email address and name and I will add you to it. Kind regards Marc -
Dear Colleagues, As you may be aware, we are experiencing some internet issues at the moment. This is being caused by Janet, who are our upstream provider suffering a DOS (denial of service) attack from unknown parties. This is something they are aware of and looking into, but the attack keeps changing vectors and this attack is causing links to saturate. Our engineers are in constant communication with Janet and we will bring you updates as soon as we have them. Kind regards ICT4C support team

Apple Caching Server
mwalpole replied to chrisvann's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Hi Everyone, This is something we at YHGfL are currently investigating. abillybob is correct, the problem encountered currently is that schools are natted out on the same group of public IP's. This causes issues when registering a caching server because all devices within the network will then try and contact the caching server at a single school where the caching server resides. This will not be reachable from other schools/networks. This will stop apple products from the updating etc as apple will say "you have a caching server locally". The reason for this is the single group of public IP’s and also the way in which networks pass through the filtering platform on egress. Putting a caching server in our core network would NOT solve the issue of bandwidth utilisation as you are still using the link to get to our core. We are currently looking at a number of solutions to allow individual networks / schools to have their own Apple caching server. Kind regards Marc
