Techie101

ok i know this has been dragging on now for ages, the school had forgotten about the laptops and i kept quiet about them hoping i could get away with not setting them up, but no such luck. just as an update, the Universal Imaging Utility did work in the end, but the cost if it is around £1400, you have to buy 100 licences as a minimum, even though we only need about 20! has anyone else tried to image an AMD desktop onto an Intel laptop and had any success?

Porn Star, all two and a half inches of me:D

I used to know a Mandy once who used to go on webcam, nothing to do with BETT though

Let me know when your headed out coz we might get a discount if we buy more than one airline ticket, coz i for one will be right behind you. I was talking to a friend the other day and we were saying that being PM and running this country is p*ss easy. all you have to do is follow these 2 simple rules - 1. Fill your own pockets with as much money as possible and hope you dont get caught (this applies to MP's as well as if you were PM) 2. Don't worry about making silly mistakes that cost the country millions, coz you can quiet easily get the money back from raising taxes. so basically you cant go wrong, well that is until a general election comes round

Have you had many applicants, 27k seems low for the type of applicant you want and with such a looong list of prefered qualifications 27k seems even lower.

Also just wanted to add that this whole thing has really made my day. I googled "sparklebox banned" and was taken to various teaching forums and some of the comments from teachers had me rolling around on the floor. stuff like "im mortified", "what are teachers going to do now", "how do they expect us to teach without this resource", and my all time favourite "this site halfed my workload, now i'll have to work". God i love teachers, maybe somewhere they forgot they are actually employed to teach, and teaching is not just about surfing the net for resources that other people have done, printing them off and then patting yourself on the back on a job well done, back when i was in uni, that was called plagiarism. can any teacher remember back to when schools had no internet, teachers taught back then too, so one website gets banned and the whole system comes crashing around them. the scenes at some of my schools resemble the movie 2012, damn maybe the Mayans were right, lol

ermmmm, post 50 just says - "Oops, no idea what happened there!"

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like i'll put things on hold then until the 300 series of cards come out and see what kind of reviews they get.

Just had a look at stone computers website, very impressive, they offer a lot of good stuff, i like

I have used Laptops Direct in the past, the problem is that Acer no longer do an onsite warranty, other makes such as Sony for example want £240ish for a warranty!! Acer used to do them for around £70-80 including accidental damage plus you got a carry case and mouse for free.

Thanks for that, will look into it before the school lets me off my leesh and lets me go home.

Hi all A school has asked me to price them up 3 laptops. They must come with 3 years ON SITE WARRANTY, Acer used to do an onsite warranty but no longer offer it. So the only other name I could think of that offered warranties and a decent price was Dell. So I went onto Dells site and after 5 mins of staring at the screen my head is no spinning, am I the only one who thinks that their website is badly put together, I mean talk about information overload! I'm trying to match this spec of laptop - http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer%5FTravelmate%5F5730%5FLX%2ETQ20Z%2E113/version.asp?PID=881 But Dell seem to add to the price for every option you add, I wonder what the Dell base model includes in the price they quote, do you just get an empty box! As you can tell I'm fed up, always used to hate Dell, now I just reminded myself why.

I guess thats the problem with technology in general, how long can you really wait, something better, faster, bigger, more powerful is always just around the corner, i've even heard that Intel will be replacing the i7 cpu come 2010, and they have only just come out! so your fancy new i7 system will already by old hat! Its a hard choice, ATI cards offer more bang for your buck, nVidia are very expensive comapred to ATI but with the likes of BFG offering a 10 year warranty in the UK (its only lifetime in the USA, i think). Like i have said before i used to swear by ATI but after 3 cards died all just out of warranty i switched to nVidia and never looked back. If i end up spending close to £300 on an ATI card and it dies just out of warranty i'll seriously cry, but if i spend that bit extra on a BFG nVidia at least i know i'll be covered to 10 years! As far as direct x 11 support i guess i could wait for the nVidia 300 series of cards but i bet you that they will be closer to £500, way tooooo much for a video card in my opinion, also not many games fully use direct x 11 as yet anyway, guess i'll have to sleep on this one before i decide to spend this kind of money on a pc, god i hate pc's sometimes

I take this back, blooming review sites, just read a review on the same site that says the ATI is faster than the nVidia card????? Do these people actually test the hardware that they have or do they just make stuff up as they go along, how can one website give two different reviews.

Actually for that price I could buy several, lol

Maybe I should just buy an xbox

Oops didnt notice that, replace with Asus P6T Motherboard - £178.69

Ok what do you guys think about this spec - MB - Asus Rampage II Gene mATX i7 Motherboard - 179.56 CPU - Intel Core i7-920 'D0 Stepping' Quad Core - 215.54 RAM - 6GB Kingston Hyper-X 2000MHz DDR3 Triple Channel Memory Kit - 154.95 VIDEO - BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB - 366.79 HDD - 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ Hard Disk Drive - 64.96 DVDRW/DL - Sony AD-7240S-0B 24x DVDRW - 17.17 KEY/MOUSE - Microsoft Business Hardware Pack - 19.6 PSU - 850W Coolermaster Silent Pro M850 - 111.95 CASE - Antec Nine Hundred - 76.21 Grand Total = £1206.73 (bugger, slightly over bugdet)

Just had a look at this site and the BFG comes out way ahead - HEXUS.net - Review :: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB Vapor-X graphics card: the best in the world? : Page - 5/10

So you think that the 5870 is better than the BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB. The only thing putting me off ATI is that in the past i swore by ATI but after card number 3 died and i switched to Nvidia i've had no problems, in fact i'm still on the original Nvidia card that I replaced the ATI one with.

What you running for graphics?

Already got a PS3 but prefer PC for gaming, don't ask, don't wanna get into a debate about console vs PC. OS will be Windows 7 and budget is between £750 and £1000 Dont need a monitor in that price, I already have a 24" LCD.

Hi all Thinking of building a gaming pc before the year is out. Getting fed up with not being able to play the latest games on my current pc. But I cant decide on what hardware to get, can’t even decide on what CPU, Intel or AMD. Looked at the following CPU’s so far – AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core CPU for £146.11 (AM3) Intel Core i7-920 'D0 Stepping' Quad Core for £215.54 (Socket 1366) Intel Core i7-950 Quad Core for £432.95 (Socket 1366) Graphics Card wise I was thinking – BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB for £366.79 Prices are from this site, this place is local to me so I can nip down and pick up the parts. CCL Computers - Awarded Best Online Retailer 2008 for PC, PC Components, Laptops, Notebook, Computer Components, Intel Servers, Hard Drives, PC Memory If anyone could also recommend RAM and a good Motherboard I’d appreciate it. Thanks all

Ermm while I understand where you're coming from, you have to ask the question that if this guy was so mentally disabled to think that climbing into a bear enclosure was a good idea then why FFS is he not in a care home or being supervised. And if anyone thinks that this was the bears fault I would say that this guy isn't the only one who's mentally disabled.

Lol, can't even open the site, LEA have blocked it!!
