Yes VMs are great tools, but they have tended to be problematic where applications use an internet related resource (such as a remote database) for their function, an application can appear not to function on a VM and a great deal of time would be spent chasing a problem which wouldn't be present on a workstation. Should have clarified that this was aimed at someone new to CC3 application integration, and by removing all the additional tripping points it would reduce problem solving. The vagaries of RM packaging methods do really mean attending the courses, or having someone who has attended to hand, is a wise move.

To build and allocate new applications there are a lot of elements of the CC3 system that need to be understood for this to go smoothly. This isn't the definitive list but: Building PC with Build disks or via the RM management console Building into the correct location (within the PackageBuild 'container') How to create a restore image in the clean state (big time saver this) Knowing when not to accept default network drive allocations for application installations, databases etc etc Knowing which permissions have to be manually set for Read/Write access etc How to use the RM ACL Detective How to allocate packages to workstations All workstations should only have ONE harddrive Clean workstations should NOT be any more powerful than than those you will allocate to. Do NOT use virtual machines Test all user types by allocating new packages to a single machine and logging on and using the package as a Student, Staff etc etc. So as you see the RM Application Integration Course is the way to go, however I think, first you have to have completed an RM Managing Community Connect course to be eligible. So be prepared to wave goodbye to £1500 for these two:eek:

Plexer, is this an open letter we could have copies of please, or just salient paragraphs. I can then continue my case for ridding the school of this awful software. In the meantime I have sent the following to Longmans' Support (insert sarcastic laugh here): I am aware that there is a known issue with the database in ict4life becoming corrupt and not allowing pupils to log in, this is a problem that we (as is the case for numerous others) are having. As of the beginning of March there was no timescale available for a resolve, given that this is a key time in the school year are you now any closer to being able to offer advice? will update when/if they reply
