  1. Could you not bypass AD entirely and add the printer as a local printer with the port \\SERVER\PRINTER on the clients? That's how we do it for inkjets connected to a handful of PCs in a random room, and we've never had any problems. It's less automated, but it works.
  2. I'd also say no to Dell in future. In fact we have said no, and have moved over to the HPs mentioned before. Dell after sales support (business) is just a shambles and an absolute nightmare to deal with. If we have a problem with a HP machine, we phone them up, describe the problem, and they'll send a man with a part out the next day, no fuss. If we have a problem with a Dell PC, you're on the phone for an hour while they get you to run endless diagnostics so they can tell you that yes, just like you told them in the first 60 seconds of the call, it was the power supply that caused the same blinking orange power LED that you've had on the other 20 machines whose power supplies died. We draw lots when phoning Dell. I'm so glad we're rid of them, I can't put it into words.
  3. You might want to check te event log and see exactly what's going on when the machine shuts down. Check the System log for any red Xs or exclamation marks at around the time you're shutting down, and read the description of the errors. That should hopefully point you in the right direction. You can find the event log by right clicking My Computer, selecting Manage, and it's called Event Viewer, under System Tools.
  4. I agree with this - we use 2133s at work and they ship with Vista preinstalled. I tested it for a bit but it was just too slow to do anything with. I took it off and stuck XP on and they run really well. I haven't benchmarked them yet, but I will get round to it soon. I've got a demo 2140 on my desk with Vista on it and it seems to run Vista better than the 2133s do. I'd still prefer to stick XP on it though. I'm not a Vista hater by any means, but I don't think it's the right choice for a netbook. Saying that, I have run Windows 7 on an Asus 1000H and it ran like a dream, so that will be the OS to go for when it's eventually released, I reckon. Hello, by the way!
