I have 13 schools that I support. 1 always has the power block unplugged from the Promethean board. 1 at 2 or 3 laptops "cant access the network" "DONT TURN THE WIRELESS OFF THEN!!" 1 has too many pc's and not enough network points, they know this but wont put another network point in or even get a mini switch, and yet they STILL complain that this pc one pc cant access the network. 1 has moaned about laptops not charging in the trolley - "which ones?" I say. "ooh I'm not sure now" they respond. Its always that they've yanked on the cables and dislodged one or more power supplies. I have another that the teachers in reception are obsessed with moving the equipment about EVERY week and then complain because they haven't connected it all back up correctly or that leads are missing. The fn+f8/f5 I would say is the most common overall.

I built my rig 2 years ago and its still capable of playing every game I get. Q6600 OC's to 3.3 with 2gb ddr3 with ATI HD2900XT. There's no point in paying too much money these days. We're pretty much stuck with console port's/graphics for the forseeable future now. Just look at MW2. In the past it might have been worth spending £300 on a graphics card with the likely hood that games would take advantage of it in the near future - I just dont see this happening. Gaming on the PC is still the elite experience IMO but we're second fiddle to the consoles, as sad as that is. I'd check out custom-pc and bit-tech.net for good advice. Sometimes its about getting the right mix of hardware. Not just the biggest numbers on paper. Good Luck I'd be tempted to wait for Fermi to see if it lives upto the hype.

I'm running Eset's NOD32 at home across all my machines - its been excellent with no noticeable drain on resources but is a bit expensive, which is why I want to know how you got it free Ben.

OK Sorry I took it personally and was a bit childish with my response - as has been pointed out to me

I think to say EDIT (we're no longer called that) have given you a bad service is unfair Pottsey. I believe you thought you had a bad service from one person in particular so to label us all under the same umbrella is not really cricket – even then that was to go onto our AD infrastructure at a cost to US!, to which might I add that the school had agreed and only part way through the install did you raise any concerns. We dutifully rolled what we had done back and awaited the outcome. Now I could understand that you had concerns about going on the AD as you wanted to remain as autonomous as possible – fair enough – but even when you were offered alternatives none of them were taken up. As a consequence you now have a decent server box sat switched off doing bugger all! Your network sucks – mini hubs hanging off everywhere, a hub in the main cab, you’re running 2003 server on an old hp pc connected to one of those hubs. Money and finances are not an excuse, just speak to the head at John Davies. Which brings me to another of your points. I take exception to you speaking for other schools, and none of the schools I visit feel the same way you do Pottsey. If you want a list of schools I visit I will be more than happy to oblige when I see you in 2 weeks. You are not forced to use all of our services, yet you still buy back at the second highest level year after year - why is that? Surely if we offered such a poor service you would only opt for the most basic options? I really feel disappointed you have slagged us off like this, and didn’t even mention it yesterday when I was there.

I used to be regularly asked to clean the filters - even with a class full of children. Been on the H&S ladders thing also. CyberNerd is almost correct - its not the head that would be CRIMINALLY LIABLE it would be who ever is doing the work. Its for this reason that I refuse to have anything to do with them. And remember ignorance is not a plea or an excuse.
