  1. Barrowford Primary School Home
  2. I thought I had. Okay, his positive advice was, let the school do whatever they want to do, it makes no difference to us. When we turn up we will do our job, fo r which we have trained intensively. Negative, don't give us meaningless bits of paper with names of missing children as we do not want them. I paraphrase. Having spent 8 years in the army, a few as a medic, you are trained to ignore the people who will be in a panic and irrational and to get on with your job. The hysterical Head who believes a child is missing will become white noise, as will the calm one who claims everyone is safe. It's really simple, why are people making it complicated, spare time at the end of year?
  3. Was my tale of the conversation with the Chief Fire Officer from a major Engish city not good enough?
  4. When pushed, this is what I advise schools to do, but have it hung on the classroom door. I stipulate it is for their own, false, peace of mind, nothing more. An occasion fire register may be a good idea for fire alarm & procedure tests only.
  5. Some really strange words and phrases used above. 'Reasonably relied on...' 'just let the fire brigade come and search....' Wow... Now I'm sure I did the right thing. 5 1/2 days left....
  6. Okay you win. Schools should also have a Flood Register. Lightening Strike Register. etc. etc. and at sometime during the day... some lessons. What is wrong with the Official Register? Why is it taken? Why is it more inaccurate than something with a misleading name? So many questions. Show me when a register saved a life or lack of one cause loss, then I'll change my mind. :-)
  7. No, schools should not have a fire list/register.
  8. What is a Fire Register? Seriously, have you ever heard of an official fire register. If one was of use, don't you think someone would have come up with one by now?
  9. I would also recommend SLT look at these, why reinvent the wheel. Case studies | capita-sims.co.uk
  10. Lesson by lesson registration. About £200 for a primary. Just checking price. EDIT: Licence £500 Annual £250
  11. Debate is good. Are you a Primary or Secondary? Have you considered Lesson Monitor?
  12. No. I don't see how you could ever be certain that it was accurate, my point with the fire register. Too much room for error, too much movement within and in and out of the school. No system is fail-safe. A facetious recommendation? Tag the kids and staff. But as we all know, that doesn't work.
  13. Why would the fire service be delayed? A call would be made as soon as a fire was suspected. What is wrong with the existing register, provided it is safe to print, which it shouldn't be. as soon as the alarm sounds, leave all belongings and safely exit the building, do not stop. A building should never be re-entered, human nature may dictate otherwise, but school procedure should be: Suspect a fire, sound alarm, vacate, ring 999, assemble as instructed, enter building only when it is confirmed to be safe. Entering a building could make the Fire Service job twice as difficult. Just as with an oxygen mask in-flight, making sure you are safe is the first priority. Only then can you help others.
  14. This is a very old chestnut. I spoke to the Chief Fire Officer here many years ago. His advise is what Phil said, 'we will ignore anything you say, a child may have slipped in without being noticed. A child may have said they were going but not cleared the building.' He said his men would not ever risk the fact that an administritive error would result in them not rescuing a child... or member of staff. They would systematically sweep the building regardless. By all means take a register, print it with a super speed printer, that is not in the room on fire, whatever you want. It will only serve to make the school feel good.
  15. Past Creations | Mr T Cakes site still under construction.
  16. I'm not volunteering, it's not my area of expertise. I'll bake you a capita cake :-) Wheat & Gluten free. :-)
  17. they wouldn't give me a new team, so I'm off to find one
  18. Nothing like that, It's more training on anything from using a mouse to how to decorate a wedding or novelty cake... both of which I can do.
  19. I may have some SIMS stuff :tape2:in the wind, so won't be leaving here.
  20. Yes, the real world, away from boiling frogs and u-turns in freight liners. Looks like my training side is winning over my baking side.
  21. I do feel sorry for him, humour cures all :-) I'm not doing anything with it. I am the only one on the Helpdesk answering calls, why aren't more schools closed? and I have only 7 1/2 days left here.
  22. Nah, that's so you watch the Favicon. It will hypnotise to into forgetting the failure and believe this is the first release and all is well.
  23. Who's going to install???
  24. I guess tomorrow is now today, but we'll see.
