Just to update - changing that setting worked - did file a ticket with Impero but haven't heard back from them yet (usually they are pretty good) but our clients are back! Hopefully they can get something sorted for Manifest v3 - not sure how good they can even make the client on Android as it has never been as good as the Windows one (presumably based on what Windows allows executables to do vs Android)

[sims] Tidying and cleaning SIMS in preparation for Bromcom
mikes replied to JoeS's topic in MIS Systems
We are doing similar for a move to arbor. For me I did a delete student data for all those over 31 years old (which had never been done) and my boss has been deleting associated (now) null contacts. Not sure how she is doing it sorry if she has ran a report or not. We've been given a document from our LEA showing what to do for our data cleanse, will try and find it, but tbh I don't think it's that in depth - pretty sure it doesn't even cover sims docstorage - but Arbor may have a different migration method -
Sharing a document with Pupils parents - GDPR

Do you normally send these types of e-mails to parents personal gmail accounts? I can't see why a work o365 account would be much different myself? -
Modern CCTV - AI and facial recognition tools
mikes replied to localzuk's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We would love a system where you could type in a students name and it tells you the last known camera and the students movements, it would make tracking certain students who run round the school so much easier, but I've always thought such a system wasn't legal - plus oftentimes the pupil is walking away from the camera or is too far away and so I'm not sure how reliable it would be. Our system technically supports facial recognition but I think you'd have to upload photos first and it would only work with a close up image of a person e.g. for an entry system - picking someone out of a crowd on a 1080p or < 4K camera just isn't technically feasible. And yes when we have had SAR on people, we've had to search their initials too. Which makes things very hard if their initials are AM or something like that... -
hmm my test user seems to be online after enabling the setting under Devices not Users so you might be onto a winner here! Will keep an eye out for more clients!
-
Seems the setting under Users shows that it applies only up to version 131 - but there is an option under devices that shows version 132 so I will try and turn that on as well and see if that helps. DeviceNativeClientForceAllowed ChromeOS since version 132 Will turn it on and do some testing

Even our school homepage isn't loading correctly on this new version. I thought it was MS known for dodgy updates not Google!

Am experimenting with these powershell commands Get-AppxPackage *amd* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Get-AppxPackage *gaming* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Get-AppxPackage *feedback* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Get-AppxPackage *BingNews* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Get-AppxPackage *GetHelp* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Get-AppxPackage *phone* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers Basically it searches for packages with those strings and removes them for all users. I have ran them manually for now on a test machine but am testing adding them to the build. The AMD one is for the AMD Catalyst software that seems to come with the PC build/driver. Am using AppLocker and GPO's for the rest of the restrictions. Got a lot more work to do as there's other crap in the start menu as well. I also replaced an XML file to get rid of the Edge pin but I can't remember exactly how sorry. Bear in mind there might be side effects - removing the *gaming* one has made Minecraft Education pop up an error about the overlay when you run it - it still does run though. I wish there was a standard school build - but everyone does things differently - we are still on SCCM not Intune or anything like that!

Just got an e-mail from Impero Support saying the weekend upgrade from 130 to 132 has broken it "It appears that the latest version of ChromeOS (132.0.6834.94) breaks the plugin which is why ChromeOS devices are not connecting. We will have this checked and raised to our team for further investigation and testing." They say other schools have reverted back to 130 and it works, I'm nervous though because: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/12569990?hl=en the revert support page says reverting chromebooks wipes and re-enrolls them - and ours were enrolled using a temporary Hwb account (some Welsh govt thing) so if I set a revert they might all just get stuck on a re-enroll screen! Time to do some testing I think or otherwise hope Impero can fix it soon!
-
Ours has just stopped working today for some reason on Chromebooks - users just stop showing up in the console. No idea why, am investigating it now. Have enabled the legacy extension option in the g-suite but baffled. they logged on then slowly dropped one by one now none show up. Windows clients working fine

LDF is 46MB MDF is 32GB. We are actively deleting expired contacts now (not that far through it yet) now that we've done the student delete so maybe that will help - I noticed the SIMS database backup file grew each night as I was doing old student deletes (a few years each night) but then over the weekend the database backup has gone down in size by a few GB now. We are moving over to Arbor so it's in preparation for that, we are following the LEA guidelines so I guess I won't need to worry about the DB size at all once it is done. Our entire LEA is moving from SIMS to Arbor during the school year and I think they just want all teachers to randomly switch one day after an inset day of training?
-
Yeah following through it now - just going to keep file explorer - cheers!

Hi guys us and a contractor are working on a Win 11 image deploying via SCCM, all is going well so far (except for having problems getting Minecraft EDU to deploy) - but our image for students has Edge auto-pinned Does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of this auto Edge icon? preferably replace it with Chrome but I know there are all sorts of horrors with the Win 11 taskbar/start menu just removing it would be enough?

Honestly I went about 7 years ago and due to my location in West Wales I didn't find it that valuable, I had to leave so early in the morning, sit on the bus most of the day, and wander around honestly 99% of the things I saw either didn't interest us (e.g. a lot of primary school stuff) or stuff our school could never pay for. Ended up just exhausted and wanted to go home by 2pm. Almost tripped up Bryan Cox by accident as well
-
We are making an image using 24H2. Not had any problems so far apart from SCCM not wanting to deploy a few apps which I'm investigating but am not an SCCM expert. But agreed I wouldn't bother with anything earlier, it'll only end up having to do updates unnecessarily in the future.

Maybe I'm getting old but the only thing on there I'm interested is Dune part 2. Infact best film I've seen all year is Akira which came out in the 80's which I've never seen before!

Sorry to rez this old thread, but we have just ran a data cleanse of years of students going back 2007 - 2010 ish, (still doing more) in prep for an MIS move, but checking the sims DB backup's it seems it has actually grown massively rather than shrank! Normally it grows by a small amount but on the days I've cleansed a few years it has grown by a lot! I would wonder if SIMS has some kind of recycle/recovery bin but that's way too advanced for SIMS! It's gone from 30gb to 32gb in the few days I started doing the cleanse (it was just over 30GB in november for example!)

"An official website of the United States government"
mikes replied to 6Foot2's topic in Other Stuff
I love watching The Computer Show, and The Computer Chronicles, two programs from the 1980's talking about "micro's" - the old 8 bit microcomputers they had back then. Talking all stuffy and seriously about how it would change office work so that a secretary can "e mail" a document rather than typewrite it and carry it down etc. I'd love to show them the current times we live in - everyone walks around with a portable computer terminal in their pockets just like in a 1980's sci-fi book - but they use it to take videos of themselves shaking their behinds... (actually one of the hosts of one show Stewart Cheifet is still alive to this day!) They've put all "woke" staff on paid leave. Hell they could put me on paid leave but in their case I'd be very worried about my job (let alone my country!) -
We are given a list from our LEA instead of a budget now with equipment we pick for IT. We needed some speakers for classrooms so we chose some. They ship us speakers that have Bluetooth enabled, can't be turned off, with no password, enabling anybody to connect and play anything they want. Brilliant

Bulk Delete Student Data - Timescales (moving from SIMS to Arbor)
mikes replied to mikes's topic in MIS Systems
yeah I tested it with year 1997/1998 and it worked fine, had 3 students unselected that were kept. We are told by our LEA to do this data cleanse (in a document the very definition of Byzantine) as I guess as Pete said they don't want a lot of unnecessary cruft coming over into the new system. -
Hi guys I've been told I have to delete old student records in preparation for moving from SIMS to Abor but on here I have read various timescales for deletion - one guy said we need to keep the records for 75 years??? I have been told that we need to delete records for all students who would currently be 30 or over Unless they are in care - we need to keep those longer - SIMS handles this with the bulk delete tool so I was going to run this. But does anyone have the timescales for the dates? We are in Wales btw incase the law is different!
-
I've filed a ticket will see what they come back with. I've also found documentation saying you can restrict teacher by IP but that option doesn't show up for me. Do you need a better license or something or is this deprecated??
-
Hi guys does anyone know if there is a way to audit Classcharts teacher logons with IP addresses preferably? Can't find a way myself
-
yeah it would cause us so much hassle for so little benefit, we are still planning what to do. Plus there are concerns about handing over power we need (to audit mailboxes etc) over to them, and their support can be a bit hit and miss IMO - I've had a lot of back and forth "contact your LEA - contact the HWB" issues... As for the original Q I've done some testing and I'm pretty sure it's only monitoring authorised school devices. I have only done it on Chromebooks so far as we only loan those out, I am looking into the other filter options soon but atm I am happy it's only school devices. Edit - E.G. I just had to put in 0365 rules to stop 2 students mailing eachother as a safeguarding issue. Logged into Hwb's admin section - no way at all to add that rule or to even audit mailboxes as far as I can see. How is this fit for purpose?
