  1. Hi, We have a strange problem here... We currently have Moodle setup for all users (pupils and staff) in our main curriculum domain, using LDAP. This seems to be working fine, and all pupils and teaching staff can login correctly. We also have a small admin domain with approx 30 users on it. They also have matching usernames and passwords on the curriculum domain, (for ease of setup with our exchange server). However, they cannot login to moodle at all, which is currently confusing (using the curriculum domain credentials - matching the admin domain credentials, apart from the domain name). The OU they are in, is a sub OU of the Staff OU, which all other staff are in (which are working). I have checked their accounts, and they do not have any "logon to" restrictions in place. They also have all the necessary account fields filled in correctly. I have checked that search subcontexts is on within Moodle's LDAP settings, so it should be finding their accounts correctly. I have also tried logging into moodle on a curriculum workstation (if it was somekind of block on the domain trust), but that is not working either (but I was worried about home access, since this would be a problem for users at home, if only this had worked). Any other ideas?
  2. Thanks, now sorted, it was the timetable which needed re'applying. All sorted thanks to our helpdesk.
  3. Hi, Have arrived in this morning to find out the the dates in SIMS are all to c**k. On the teachers timetables, it says todays date 30/11/2009, but is showing Friday's classes (which was a TE Day, and school was closed). If we move on to tommorow's date (01/12/2009), the timetable is for today. It seems the dates are out of sync.. We have checked the academic year, and all seems correct, including the said TE Day. Anyone any ideas? Thanks,
  4. Hi All, Just found out today that students are hiding flash games in .mht files, thus making them very hard to find. I am struggling to block them with software restriction policies however, they are just allowed, even when I set them to disallowed. What am I doing wrong...??? Have tried the following: %HOMESHARE%\*.mht %HOMESHARE%\*.mhtl *.mhtml *.mht all to disallowed, but no joy at stopping this at the moment. Please help me...getting annoying really.
  5. Sorted now, thanks. Cheers
  6. Hi all... We have a strange issue here. One of our users was having problems logging onto the network, and it was not obvious from AD, so we removed his account from AD (deleted not just disabled), and recreated a new working AD account. We also created a new exchange account to reflect this, and removed any disconnected mailboxes relating to the old account. The Exchange console only shows the one new account for exchange as does AD, all good so far. Also imported all his mail from the old PST file, and re-imported, so the user is happy. Had a phone call from one of the Assistant Heads today, saying he sent out an email to a number of people including said user. He typed in part of the email addresses for everyone, but got an error saying the user who's account we re-created was not recieved. Everyone else worked okay. I have double checked the accounts in AD, and Exchange, and also sent test emails out to said user, which have not been bounced back. Either there is some sort of entry 'hanging around' in the GAL (don't think so) or the entry has been kept on the Assistant head's Full version of Outlook (in some sort of cached contacts list ). Is there anyway to clean this out, or check the entry's in AD/GAL? We are not using the offline address book here, so I don't think that is it. Any ideas? Regards, _techie_
  7. hehe...hunting time begins thanks for your help!
  8. I added the line DriverSigningPolicy = ignore to the riprep.sif file...surely this sorts out the problem?
  9. Hi all... Been trying to ris some HP 4510s laptops that we have bought. I can get them to use my standard XP SP3 image, but once setup with the other drivers, IE7, WMP11 and riprepped, the riprepped image does not work (gives the standard "No network drivers" message). It is the marvell yukon gigabit adapter that we are using... Anyone got this adapter to work as this is driving me nuts. I have the driver files installed in the correct places
  10. I agreed with the earlier posts...fantastic support, but not as good quality kit as some of the other manufacturers unfortunately from my own experience. The old kit was a bit slow, but seemingly very reliable!
  11. Check out Discover...it acts as a mobile FTP webserver, which you can store stuff on like a pen drive. Downside is you need a wireless access point or similiar at your workplace to get it work! You can even view basic PDF files (although sometimes they look a bit funny), and word docs work as well! Its also free (although for how long is anyones guess!). With a bit of moving about, you can create your own ringtones using iTunes. I think someone else mentioned this in an earlier thread, but I was whizzing through it to read properly! HTH
  12. David is correct. IMO this is a very bad way of doing things, and I HATE the way this has been implemented... Rather than just requesting the Windows username and password of the domain account again (ala Moodle/OWA/etc etc etc.), it just trusts the person who is logged onto machine, rather than the person using the machine (which could be different). Just my opinion of course!
  13. Yes, we have added the "Domain\Staff" group to power users on the sims machines, and also "Domain\Administrators" to administrators on the same machines, as they locked out unless we did the latter (basically replicated Domain Users type settings). Thanks!
  14. No, but we made teachers "power users" on the machines with SIMS.Net on through group policy. It was only the odd one or two machines, and the one member of staff which followed the problem around on the machines he used LOL! The majority of them updated without problems AFAIK. Not too sure, why only some of them didn't update, which was a little strange :-S Thanks for the advice though, I was aware of the SIMSPerm.bat file, we have used that in the past, but this seemed to apply the same result that the GPO Power users setting did. The only other thing that I can think of is to do with .Net Framework. We had deployed .Net 2.0 to the workstations, along with SIMS.Net, (SIMSLoad actually, which calls the setup from the server, when pulsar.exe is run as an argument in the shortcut.) Back to .Net, I can only think that the SP1 for .Net 2.0 had not yet applied to the workstation from our WSUS server. Will check the status on Monday for the updates applied to workstations. The only reason I think of this, is that we had put out some machines quite late in September, ready for teachers to use, and they had not quite picked up the SP1 for .Net 2.0 Thanks anyway.
  15. Hi, For this september, we have moved back to SIMS only from a dual system. We successfully managed to roll out SIMS.Net to client workstations. We had our first update on Thursday, and had one or two upgrade problems on machines with a few members of staff, particularly one who broke the upgrade on every machine he went on!! We have checked the one Staff members group membership in AD, and it is fine, while also checking the permissions on the SIMS folders in his home directory, and the permissions on the home dir as well, but nothing obvious has come up yet. Once logged in as domain admin, and run simsload, the program continues to function, and the said staff member can continue to use SIMS without problems. Is there anything else we need to check? Thanks,
  16. Could virtualise it? Or use RIS/WDS to image the XP machine, then RIS a new partition with XP on again, then upgrade the new partition to Windows 7? Try Virtual PC for Windows if you want to try Windows 7 virtualised.
  17. Never done it myself, but there might be a custom administrative template you could upload and apply via GPO? Have a google...might come up with something. I managed to redirect favourites using a custom adm template to the users Home Dir. HTH
  18. Yes normally, if you don't specify anything under the group policy, but if you specify elevated privileges for a group or user, you also need to add your administrators/techies accounts. HTH Mark
  19. any more info about using thinstation/quick start guide would be good, as I am a linux n00b. I did spend a little time on the thinstation link, but no definitive guides on how to start with thinstation were there, on how to make it use firefox only. Thanks Cybernerd.
  20. Hi.. We run Outlook OWA in school for staff, and our LG has requested that our caretakers have access to email. We would like to provide a very simple interface/computer for them which would require very little maintenance, so I was looking at some sort of simple unix/linux distro which could do this, but allowed some configuration, and just internet access/web-browser only access. I was looking at a kiosk type software and stumbled across LiveKiosk ™ however, this had some limitations, which included not being able to alter the homepage. Has anyone any experience of setting up something similar? Thanks,
  21. If you have any experience of Group Policy, you can do it using this! Create a new group policy object called: Local Staff Admin Account or similiar.. Alter the settings of this gpo to follows: Computer Settings... Security Settings... Restricted Groups... Add a new group called administrators, and add the Staff user account or group to it (if more than one user uses the computer). If you have a domain administrator account or group of domain admin users who work on the network (e.g. techies), you will also need to add their specific group/usernames to the administrators group, you just created, otherwise their accounts will be locked down, when logging onto the machine as well. HTH Mark
  22. Got it working, it seems the culprit seems to be the PRO 100 VE Workstations. All others seem to be working ATM. Thanks, didnt realise Windows controlled the hardware. Thanks Mark
  23. Just checked our working machines, and the driver is set to be OS controlled! I didn't realise this! Deployed some software last night, and it is just running when I came in this morning, on the machines that didn't come on. Ours are intel pro 100 VE onboard NIC's. Thanks so far.
  24. Cheers dood! That might be worth a look, but I didn't think Windows got involved in the process (it was purely BIOS?) that WOL requires? Thanks all the same, will investigate later. Will check back in later. Regards,
  25. Hi, We have some older (5 years) Dell optiplex 170L's, and some older Stone Computer Workstations, that are refusing to WOL. We have checked the BIOS settings, and they are correct. We have reset the BIOS, and changed the battery, and matched the settings against a working machine. On the Stone machines, we have even tried a BIOS upgrade, which doesn't work consistently... We have checked and triple checked the MAC Address on the clients, and even used a WOL packet sniffer to make sure the machine(s) are receiving it (which they are). We have tried new network cables/patch leads, and even tried switching the wall socket to the working machine next to it and it still fails. Is it down to the motherboard/network socket being tired/worn out through use? If so, I might have to resort to using the BIOS wake up instead We also do not have any VLANS setup (as yet) and I have checked the port configuration on the switch, which appears fine. I even turned off spanning tree protocol as a guess, but no luck Any ideas?
