  1. Yes just plugging in some headphones fixed this issue.
  2. Headphones fixed this. Thanks guys!
  3. Using the splitter cables that go DVI to VGA. Unfortunately, the monitors we have are VGA only. I'll try the BIOS update first.
  4. No speakers or headphones plugged in. What might this cause? Will try a BIOS update, this might fix it, I'll report back. Tried latest Dell Drivers, they don't do any more recent than vista (tried these anyway). Also tried graphics driver update through Windows Update, again now joy.
  5. Hi, We have an interesting problem! Dell OptiPlex 745 models cannot play HD videos on youtube in any flavour of IE (8,9 or 10. Older OptiPlex Models can play fine at a lower quality (normally defaults to 360p) Tries to play at 1080p, We get "An error has occurred, please try again later". Obviously trying again later does not resolve! Trying to play at lower quality (420p) also fails. We have tried: Clean image from Win7 CD with no policies, and inbuilt Windows drivers. Updating Windows graphics drivers to latest version from Intel site (no luck). Running latest versions of Flash and Java (11.9 and 7u45) Tried turning down all security settings for cookies and trusted sites to minimum also does not resolve the issue. Latest version of Chrome plays identical video without issue, but automatically downs the quality to 360p without any intervention. Any ideas!? Cheers _techie_
  6. Hi, Now registered on Wyse Self Support centre. Click on software downloads, but get pinged back to: https://appservices.wyse.com/pages/serviceandsupport/support/downloads.asp Frustrating!
  7. We have a XenDesktop 5 Citrix VDI system, sat upon VMware vSphere 5 system. I have identified datastore usage alarms in vSphere attached to the datastores where our Citrix XenDesktop VM's are located. These occur daily at set times on datastores, but the there is a pattern occurring. The datastores are busy from the performance charts I can see but nothing extraordinary. The pattern seems to follow the boot times of the pupil machines (which I can understand). The alarm threshold is set at 75% disk usage, but not for any condition length at present. Each datastore is 186GB, with base images at the respective 23GB. The VM images are 16MB with each identity disk. VMware sees them as overprovisioned, but a quick calculation sees that this is fine. There are 10-11 VM's per datastore depending on setup. We have 3 distinct Catalogues and Assignments within Desktop Studio Pupils - Pooled Random Staff - Pooled Random Smartboard - Pooled Random 3 Gold Master Images - related to the 3 assignments, with settings as follows: 2GB RAM 23GB HDD 2 vCPU's There are 35 staff VM's which are running 24/7. There are 2 smartboard VM's which are also running 24/7 There are 130 pupil VM's which are running in a staggered rotation, with power assignment schedule, leaving 20 running 24/7. This increases as follows: 08:00 upto 60 machines 09:00 upto 90 machines 10:00 upto 130 machines 11:00 upto 130 machines and vice versa after 17:00. I have tried the following to remove the problem: Reducing the number of pupil VM's running from 130 down to 100, to see if its load on the datastores. The alarms still persist Staggering the machines boot in the power management for the pupil assignment to be: 08:00 upto 40 machines 09:00 upto 60 machines 10:00 upto 90 machines 11:00 upto 100 machines Still the alarms persist. Aside from simply adjusting the alarm to solve the alarms popping up
  8. Hi I have changed jobs, and am responsible for the Citrix XenDesktop system. I have identified an issue with mouse lag when using the Wyse Xenith 2 (Tx0) workstations. This only seems to be affecting these workstations and Staff. I have USB redirection enabled on all thin clients. Has anyone experienced anything similar? it only seems to be affecting the Wyse Xenith 2 clients. The Xenith 1's don't seem to be a problem (or no one is reporting them!) Is there anyway to update the firmware on the Wyse Xenith 2's (I have managed to download the USB firmware update tool, but have now come unstuck with getting hold of firmware images. Kind regards, Mark Williamson
  9. Hi, We have XenDesktop 5 here sat on top of VMware vsphere 5. I am doing a large update of our pupil catalog and desktop group of machines, and was wondering what method you use? I was hoping to do the following: Create new catalogue with 130 machines with new catalogue and new VM Machine names. Add new machines to existing desktop group assignment (Named 'Pupils') Put the old machines into maintenance mode, shutdown and delete them, and delete the old catalog? Would this be okay, it is quite a major update I have done to the image. I know you can just "update machines" from within an existing catalogue, but I guess I can't do as seamless a handover with regard to taking old machines out of use. Cheers _techie_
  10. Hi, Yes we have a DDC, and I can see the users who are 'currently' using it, but I really want to have an audit log of who logged on, when, where etc. I cant see how you can do this in Desktop Studio anywhere though.
  11. Hi I am new to XenDesktop 5, after changing jobs! Is there anyway to check access logs for XenDesktop when accessing from home? We have an IIS server setup for Access to our XenDesktop farm, but so far I'm struggling! There seems to be 3 XenApp websites, and 2 XenApp Service Sites, from what I can tell, that link to our XenDesktop5 Farm. We also have a VM containing a Citrix Access Gateway Linux box. I have web console access here, but no easy to way to show active and sessions of our users. Any ideas, I need an answer really, or at least to put something into place that I can demonstrate. Cheers _techie_
  12. Hi, Trying to set a specific screen resolution on one of our thin clients, its a wyse xenith 2 zero client. I have a testing xen.ini file which has the line: "include=$mac.ini" at the end of the file. It also has display details with Resolution=DDC I then have a sub dir named INC, which includes an INI file with the file named with the MAC address of the thin client I am testing (which I got from DHCP). I can get the message: "Your systems display preferences have changed, restart your system" The client then restarts, and I am still stuck with the default 1024x768 default res!!! It seems like its being overridden somehow. Is this set on the desktop studio controller, or can I alter this setting? Cheers _techie_
  13. Nothing, it just takes me straight to the login screen: https://moodle/login/index.php
  14. Hi, Yes front page is open on VLE, and I have gone through those documents enabling guest access across the board! Really confusing!
  15. I have been tasked to merge our school website with our VLE, to create a single point of access for Students, Staff, Parents etc. Our school website is running Moodle 2.1, and I have set auto login as guest in the site settings, as well as allowing guest access on each page/course to effectively make the site 'open' but without editing rights. We then just use the built in admin account to manage moodle with any updates. Our VLE is also running Moodle (2.4.1 in this instance). We have LDAP authentication setup to users/students/staff have to login to gain access. I would like to put the content from the school website onto the VLE and do a rebrand of the site at the same time. I would like to allow guest access on certain courses, but lock down the system for the rest of the subject departments etc, which is where I am coming unstuck. I can allow guest access on a cerain page/course and also set auto login as guest, but when I try and access the page with guest access, I get pinged back to the login screen. Where am I going wrong? Guest access is enabled in Enrolment methods, so I am a little confused. Is it something to do with our course categories? Any ideas? Thanks, _techie_
  16. Our school is thinking of taking over the sale of school uniform to students to allow the school to make more money from each item that sells. We have been tasked with putting in some sort fo EPOS/Stock Level and Sale Recording system to manage this, but I have no idea even where to start!? I had thought of trying to bolt onto our existing cashless catering system somehow, as this uses ParentPay to allow parents to fund payments etc, and also recording who the food was sold to through fingerprint recognition! I thought this could possibly be adapted to meet our uniform sales, as it would record which student had purchased each item of clothing etc.... Anybody using anything specific though internally only? We only need to have stock management and sale recording and quantity management. Some sort of email sending when stocks are low would be good too, as well as mass stock intake using some sort of barcode reader. We will not be handling any money at Point of Sale, as this really needs to go through the finance office itself, and be recorded for auditing purposes. Any help on a system or company that deals in this would be brilliant!
  17. Redirect the Start Menu to a local folder on each machine. The workstation will pick up the "All Users Start Menu" which is under the following directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs Any user group specific shortcuts can go into the redirected folder, and the two will merge together to form a fully populated start menu. You just need to be very careful about folder naming so that if you have a departmental structure, you dont get slightly different folders all over the place for departments! GPP in Server 2008 R2 is easy to make this happen, but you could just copy shortcuts from a network share as a startup script into retrospective folders until you get to that point. Hope this helps!
  18. Hi, We are slowly working through our BYOD policy and structure ready for an OpenWireless SSID to be put into place. I am struggling on how to tie the following items together at present! We have: Smoothwall Internet Filter with an upstream proxy to LA, only connected to our core switch on Port 1 on the smoothwall box. Trapeze MX200 AP Controller with a WPA2 wireless service currently setup on it for our School/Domain Laptops Full HP Procurve Managed Switch Infrastructure with a 5308xl core switch. This is then connected to our server cab with 2 Dell Poweredge connect switches, running the iSCSI network for our server infrastructure (3x VM esxi servers with a Dell SAN). We currently have our smoothwall box set from DHCP as the default gateway for our domain clients which is working well. We have a SSL login page for non-domain laptops that we currently manage but these connect to our WPA Wireless service. (very few of these laptops thank god!) What we want to do is: Setup an OpenWireless SSID on the same Access Points (easy enough to do on Trapeze!) Setup a seperate DHCP server/address range for those Devices connecting to the OpenWireless SSID so that Smoothwall can get users to authenticate to the SSL login page, and give those devices a transparent proxy as well (well aware of how rubbish mobiles and smartphones are when it comes to proxying). Setup a VLAN linked to the OpenWireless SSID (Not sure how to do this!), really want to keep these BYOD devices away from the rest of my network for security etc etc... I am slowly figuring out VLANS but I get a bit confused when it gets to the core switch, as we will want students to access our VLE, Mail and Citrix Gateway, which are all currently housed in the server rack. I have read about "Zone Bridging", can anyone shed any light on this? This is the part I really need help with, as I am unsure whether to get Trapeze to dish out DHCP addresses, or adjust the scope on my MS DHCP server, as well as only allowing the OpenWireless SSID to be tied to the VLAN. You can also configure some VLAN stuff on the Trapeze box, but should I be doing it on properly on the switches with the Access Points attached to them? Any help would be great! Kind regards, _techie_
  19. Hi, We have our 1200SWG box up and running and it's working well here. I'm just trying to increase Availibility of our LDAP/NTLM authentication between our DCs and Smoothwall. I have added in our extra DC's and mapped the groups across all 3 DCs correctly. However, if I say need to reboot one of the DCs due to Windows Updates, I always get NTLM authentication pop ups on my Windows 7 clients, which then don't work correctly anyway. A reboot of the 1200SWG sorts everything, it's just a bit trivial. Any solutions out there? Am I missing a trick? Kind regards _techie_
  20. Yeah cheers, I knew that, was just typing quickly from my phone last night! Thanks guys anyway... just reassuring myself!
  21. Forgive my ignorance, but we are looking to tidy up our AD structure a bit, and need to move our MoodleLDAP user who is configured in AD. Now what I am asking is whether the complete path needs entering on noodles LDAP settings, or just the final OU that the user resides in? E.g. Cn = MoodleLDAPUser, OU = staff, DC = domain name, DC = com Or CN = MoodleLDAPuser, OU = staff, OU = domain users, OU = users, DC domain, DC = com if someone could confirm that would be great, just for my peace of mind Cheers Mark
  22. Hi! We are using Moodle 2 for our school website, and the head has asked if its possible to setup an Alumni page where ex students could leave messages/posts regarding how they are doing etc etc. I like the idea, but I am worried without some sort of 'checks' or special enrolment that the page will be spammed etc. Does anyone have any ideas on how to automate the process a little to allow genuine alumni students to post, rather than the page getting covered in rubbish? The only other way I can think of would be to let students enter information into a basic web form, leaving email details to which we could contact them back? Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers _techie_
  23. Hi, I have been reading on here about creating mandatory profiles, and people have mentioned stub registry keys. What are these, what do they do, and how do they affect profiles? Any answers would be great! Thanks,
  24. Dear all, we have our Windows 7 network up and running now, and on the whole most things are working sweetly! During the testing/setting up phase, I wanted to achieve the following: Folder redirection for 'Desktop' setup to redirect to a set folder on each workstation, independent for staff and pupils e.g. C:\PupilDesktop C:\StaffDesktop I wanted to make these read-only for security reasons, and to also prevent data loss, so that students couldn't save work on the desktop, then log off and lose it! During testing, this was working great with our mandatory profiles (we are a highly hot-desking environment) but recently I have noticed a slight delay with logging on with a Personalized Settings...Windows Desktop Update Message in the top left hand corner of the screen for approx 5 secs, on some workstations. But it varies! (I have set the desktop to have slightly different shortcuts dependant on location/departments around school). Is this something to do with the desktop folder being read-only for all Domain Users? Do I need to put special permissions on the (dreaded) desktop.ini file, so that it can be updated at logon? Any help would be appreciated on this small issue. Many thanks, _techie_
  25. Hi all, We use Cubase Essentials 5 on Win 7, along with Mandatory profiles and a template setup by the music department. The template exists in the same place within the AppData\Roaming Directory on both Staff and Students. If I login with Administrative privelages to edit the profile and add in extra (rename ntuser.man to ntuser.dat) , the template shows up in cubase correctly, and it all works fine. As soon as I log off to save any changes, alter the profile back to mandatory and test, it disappears! I have checked the profile path, and the template still exists and is the correct one, but it doesnt show up in the template list when Cubase is first run. However, i have a backup copy of the profile, which still works before I made any changes to the profile! Confusing or what! Any ideas? Thanks _techie_
