For a bit of context, I work for a IT Managed Service Provider (MSP) and we have 2 primary schools that we support, both part of the same MAT. One of the schools would like to get rid of their On-Prem server and go full cloud with Office 365. We have done all of the discovery (at least we thought we had) and put a plan of action together.
They already have their emails on Office 365 Hosted Exchange and they use Capita SIMS ID to federate with Office 365 for SSO.
All of their PCs have been upgraded to Windows 10 (licences included in their Volume Licence agreement with Microsoft) and we are planning to Azure AD Join the PCs. We have also added a custom domain to Office 365 and plan to switch all users email addresses to use that domain.
We added the new custom domain to SIMS ID and created a test account using the new domain, which created the user account in O365. We then tried to AAD join a PC, which prompted us to enter the SIMS ID username and password. Once this was done, Windows threw an error about passwords (I don't recall the exact error but can reproduce).
What I would be interested to hear is if anyone else as AAD joined PCs where SIMS ID is federated with O365? Does it work, can you share your experiences if you got it to work. We can remove the federation from SIMS ID but I fear it will take some time as they are very slow to respond to requests and we have a bit of a deadline for the project.
