Man this is a right PITA. So I have to create a new instance name and change all DB paths so they point to the new name?

Just realised the SIMS migration tool i was sent is actually to 2014 not 2012.
-
Just re-opening this thread to check if anyone had migrated SIMS from SQL svr 2008 r2 -> 2012 using the SIMS migration tool successfully? I was sent the tool a while back along with an email from support pretty much saying: 'Here is the migration tool. I haven't tried this myself but apparently it's supposed to be pretty straightforward' Basically my understanding is that SQL 2012 can be installed alongside 2008 and the migration tool will take care of shifting the dbs? Thanks

Hi just wondering, does anyone have an Airtight wireless network in their school, and if so did anyone suffer getting the guest portal to work properly? + just general feedback on Airtight would be good too. Thanks Max

Alternative to Treesize Professional
basicchannel posted a topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could recommend an alternative to Treesize Pro that will scan network drives as well as local drives? We did buy a previous version of Treesize, but they now are insisting we buy the latest version which means having to buy a new license. Pretty bad really, so even though I have got money to upgrade, their service has put me completely off buying it. If we've bought a license for a version, why can we not continue to use that version? I get that they no longer support it but if we paid for it..........anyway, I better stop before I start ranting. So if anyone can recommend a decent alternative I'd be v.grateful. Cheers- 9 replies

[sccm 2012] Updates in WSUS not being approved by SCCM ADR
basicchannel replied to basicchannel's topic in O/S Deployment
I managed to fix this by re-installing SCCM and all components entirely. It was a site recovery install and I still had the db so it wasn't too much of an issue, but I just couldn't be bothered to fight with it.- 2 replies

Functional Skills (sub-topic: OCR Suck)

That just made me die inside a little. Thunderbird and Live Mail both require internet connection in order to work (why wouldn't they?). -
Functional Skills (sub-topic: OCR Suck)

So no-one's doing functional skills in their school? -
Is anyone doing Functional Skills tests this year, and if so, what offline email program are you using? In the old XP days we just used Outlook Express, however apart from Microsoft Outlook I can't think of any free software that would allow you to create a draft email offline and not send it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a lightweight offline email client that doesn't need an account or connection to the internet that isn't Outlook? Thanks

[sccm 2012] Updates in WSUS not being approved by SCCM ADR
basicchannel posted a topic in O/S Deployment
Hi All, I have an issue with SCCM 2012 after migrating it to a new server. I have set up ADRs for Endpoint and Windows Updates and syncing software updates works fine (no errors in SCCM logs). The only thing is, when I look in the WSUS console, it says '0 updates approved' and there are thousands waiting for approval. I thought the whole point of ADRs was that they were supposed to handle this? The same goes for my Endpoint ADR. I have set up an auto approval rule in WSUS too (not sure if this is wise - I was just desperate). Has anyone got any suggestions? I can post up any logs if required. Thanks and a happy new year to you all.- 2 replies

Hi, So I've set up offline files on a colleagues laptop which seem to be syncing OK, however when they actually take it offline and try to log in on their domain account it takes forever, and then comes up with an error saying 'failed to load profile' and that network path could not be found; well of course it can't be found because the damn thing is offline!!! So it loads a temp profile and none of my colleagues files or folders are present. Am I missing something fundamental here? I thought once they'd logged in and built a local profile they could then log in when outside the network and have access to their offline files? Is it worth me bothering with offline files anymore? Thanks in advance

I call bullsh*t on this. For a start it quotes a Daily Star article.
