XP SP3 Internet Explorer Branding GPO failing

Hi

We just redirected our App Data folders for users XP profiles to a share but it appears to have caused a problem where IE branding is not being applied and a error is logged:

Event ID: 1091

The Group Policy client-side extension Internet Explorer Branding failed to log RSOP (Resultant Set of Policy) data. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.

Our IE branding is just homepage and proxy really plus turning menu's off but so far I have not found a solution to this. MS released a hotfix for sp2 but sp3 is supposed to have the fix in it.

 

Anyone else had/having this issue?

I am still in the early stages of looking into it so I will add more details later.

Found a fix. Apply the registry key part of:

After you enable the Folder Redirection policy in Windows XP Service Pack 2, the Internet Explorer Maintenance policy may not apply

You dont need the files in SP3 but you need the key anyway to enable GP and app data redirect to work with IE

This issue had been driving me up the wall for months. In the end i just set the proxy and homepage on the default profile and blew the image out, so i could still use folder redirection.

 

The fix you claim worked for you didn't do the trick for me, which is strange...maybe it was how you held your face at the time!

I assume your sp3. Hmm thats strange as it has worked on 550 clients here that had the problem but I pushed the registry key out using GP.

 

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

 

Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\

 

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

Type FEATURE_GPO_BRANDING_WITH_FOLDER_REDIRECTION_KB888254, and then press ENTER.

 

Click FEATURE_GPO_BRANDING_WITH_FOLDER_REDIRECTION_KB888254.

 

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

Type *, and then press ENTER.

 

On the Edit menu, click Modify.

Type 1, and then click OK.

 

Quit Registry Editor.

Restart the computer.

This thread relates to XP SP3, but the MS doc relates to SP2, can someone confirm if this fixes SP3?

 

We have a domain of SP3 machines and we use IT maintainence which worked fine until we redirected appdata. Any help appreciated.
