Set the roaming profile directory - Google Chrome

Hi All,

 

I have just updated my .admx files for Google chrome and have found a new policy "Set the roaming profile directory" and "Enable the creation of roaming copies of Google Chrome profile data" could this mean at long last Google Chrome data IE bookmarks will roam?? and we can open chrome on more than one device :-)

This is being worked on now.

 

The idea would be to keep the current profile as is in the Local directory with all its caches and binary components and put a lightweight sync-like version in the Roaming folder for Windows to roam and backup.

 

We will update this bug with information how to test this feature once it is available in a public version of the browser.

I don't know how I ended up blocking this one on a tiny detail bug.

 

What I wanted to say that it is blocked on the launch bug for roaming profiles of course which is now only pending Testing-Approval.

Has anyone got this working so it points to the redirected Favourites in users Home Folder?

 

Or is it a case of setting "Set the roaming profile directory" to "${user_name}\Chrome" or "${profile}\Chrome" so it saves Favourites within the Chrome folder in there Home Folder?

 

I'm just wondering if it will sync back and forth, so for example if someone saves a bookmark in Chrome will it appear in IE Favourites as well?

Would be cool if a GPO did this, we've been redirecting Chrome favourites et al for years with this command line set in the file associations in the registry

 

"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-ipv6 --user-data-dir="r:\Chrome\User Data" --disk-cache-size=N --homepage "http://web.page" -- "%1"

 

One thing though, if chrome is open on PC1, the teacher can't open Chrome on PC2 at the same time as the User Data folder is already in use, so Chrome while it supports it afaik isn't happy with multi profiles...

Just an update and it works really well

 

I have only tested favorites/bookmarks being saved in the users Documents Home Folder so far. Not tested password syncs yet but I don't see why they wont work now there's a profile.pb file. Seems to not mind the same user logged into different computers using chrome at the same time.

 

The two setting I applied in the GPOs are as follows:

 

Set the roaming profile directory = ${documents}\Chrome

Enable the creation of roaming copies of Google Chrome profile data = Enabled

Sorry to revive an old post, I am struggling to get this working, I am trying to do this using the user based policies, set the roaming profile directory to: ${documents}\Chrome

 

Enable the creation of roaming copies for Google Chrome profile data has been enabled too....

 

We have folder redirection turned on, I am not sure if this would cause an issue, but the Chrome folder does not ever appear in the documents folder for us... Does anything need doing at computer level too.

Try adding a \ after ${documents}\chrome.

 

I have actually just turned this off as staff bookmarks were not getting saved.
