When I reprovision EOL ChromeOS devices with Neverware Cloudready - does this then take up another ChromeOS licence? Or do I just select the replacing with same device option. Thinking of 70 odd Chromeboxes....

I feel the answer to this may be that as Neverware is installed, it requires a new license. I may be incorrect, it's not something we've encountered.

I remember reading something about you can only re-provision a google licence to an exact same device, so you could re-provision from chromebox, to chromebox, but not chromebox to chromebook?

 

Unsure if this is still the case. If it is, then it needs to change, we should be allowed to re-provision our licences from our device to our other device as IT'S ALL OURS!!!

If the serial numbers brunt into the machine are the same on the old as they are on the new in theory it should work without another licence.

I heard back from google re:restriced, you can whitelist specifical channels like the google for edu one: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6214622?hl=en as a work around for now.

It works off the USB for testing, fully featured. Or you can click the menu and select install and it installs it permanently.

Unfortunately I think the Fizzbooks I mentioned earlier in the thread are not compatible. I boot from the USB but I just get a CloudReady splashscreen and nothing else. Never progresses further than this.

Yeah they mentioned them in the stream (which should be watchable now as a video) and I think it requires 2GB of ram to run properly.

Someone raised a question about RT devices and compatibility with Neverware during the transmission. Did we get an answer for that?

You can't install alternative OSs on Windows RT devices.

Big news -- I just got an update for my Neverware Cloudready laptop and now it can install and run Linux apps from https://beta.flathub.org/home

 

So far I've successfully installed and run HexChat, OpenTTD, and Steam. I'm just installing a game from Steam to see what happens. Will edit post with result.

 

Edit: "Installed Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers". Results mixed. Seems to run, but mouse input seems wrong. Might just be this game.
