RabbieBurns Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We initiated a site wide password change for all staff at the beginning of the year, but now Outlook is pestering users (some not all) every time they open outlook for their credentials. Even ticking the 'remember username password' doesnt work. Cant figure it out! exchange 2010 Rollup latest and Outlook 2010 (client hasnt been updated in a while could this be an issue?)
Zourous Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We've had this on the odd occasion in the past and it is usually a corrupted user profile, but I'm sure you've probably tried that already.
RabbieBurns Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 @sukh Do you mean in credential manager in control panel? Tried clearing those yeah still persists
sukh Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 can you post a screenshot ? yea, I meant credential manager. Also do the Test Autoconfiguration for OLK via the systray % see what that reports.
RabbieBurns Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 is a screen shot of the prompt for credentials. Its taken on my win8 laptop with outlook 2013 and for me it only shows for the helpdesk account which is a secondary mailbox added to outlook, but thats the same prompt other users get in their win7 / 2010 outlook. Its not all users either, its probably about 50 or so, at least thats all we've had tickets for. Experimenting today, it seems creating a new outlook profile resolves the issue, they are presented with the credentials popup but after they enter domain\usernamee and password it then lets them in and remembers creds.
sukh Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Are you sure the credential manager is cleared, are you going with the profile fix?
Gardinho Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Have you check event logs? I have seen this before and I think it ended up being something to do with the type of certificate used for Outlook 2010 clients.
RabbieBurns Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 yep cleared credential manager for sure. The profile fix will do for the headmaster and important people, cant do it for everyone. Also is this gonna happen every time we force a password change? Not looked in event logs, any tips to which event I should look for?
MatthewL Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Is the PC on the domain? Have you deleted the Outlook profile and readded it back on? What version of Exchange are you running?
sukh Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 And you are 100 % sure this only occured when the users changed their password? Are you using PF ? I assume the other users dont have additional mbx's open? Do you still have a user with this issue?
RabbieBurns Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Yes we had a user today with this issue, and all the support tickets happened as soon as the password change happened. It happens to me, but only for a secondary mailbox i have mounted within outlook. I don't think i know what PF is so I don't think we are using it, no. Also, if we create a new mail profile, or a user logs in to a new laptop, opens outlook for the first time and lets it load, it also pops up looking for user credentials. I dont belive it should do so?
jamesreedersmith Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Have a look at the offline address book and the relevant server bits for this.
sukh Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Hit the ctrl key and right click the outlook icon then choose the test-autoemailconfiguration, only check on the first box (unticj the both guest options) and run the test. Pleae post the result here.
Darylrese Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 hotfix says its already installed! I will give the users a new profile which should rebuild their appdata folders and see if that resolves the issue
RabbieBurns Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 new year, new site wide password change, and this issue has reappeared. I cant really go recreating all the outlook profiles again. Exchange is now at SP3, and pretty fully patched, could it be an outlook update that is missing that would fix this?
