Just did some network upgrades, the title sums it up:

 

Here is what one cabinet looked like before:

 

Didn't take an after as it was still a mess but at least both switches were actually mounted as opposed to just sitting in the cab. Had to take the whole cab apart though to move the rails forward which took 'some' time.

 

Finally, gigabit throughout.

Yeap, I believe it is called 'pretty rainbow' I'm still missing pink, purple and orange but those are difficult colours to come by.

The horrifying thing is that this is major progress from what it was, there are two different types of cage nuts in there, different screw pitch but same dimensions. There are only about half as many cage nuts as there are supposed to be. Till I got there the thing just hung open from the back hinge as it could not be shut. The loose cable on top is from a room upgrade where the contractor helpfully wired the classroom side but neglected to price terminating the other ends. They then went under and so there it sits waiting for more budget and time.

 

There is another one which is my next challenge in that school, that one still hangs open and the cable was terminated that short that the rails could not be more than half way forward in the case otherwise they would not reach. I'm actually going to have to lower the cabinet on the wall to get enough slack to bring the rails forward so that anything other than patch panels can be mounted. This is the core cabinet for that school to so I'm going to have to pull the thing overnight unless I want to blackout the whole network for a day. Still, progress... better
