Little-Miss Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 One member of office staff getting this error when trying to run reports. Any ideas what could've changed. It's got to be a machine based issue as she can do it on other machines. Can happily use all other functions of SIMS she needs. *brain dead*
Rawns Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I'd go for the classic approach of a SIMS re-install. Rename/delete the C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net folder and re-run SIMSInst.exe. (Or redeploy from the SOLUS3 interface if your using it...) I don't suppose the error indicates the file it's complaining about? 1
Little-Miss Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Nope. Most unhelpful message. Flicking through reports, it'd not all of them. No pattern to it though from what I can see...
vikpaw Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Two things spring to mind, the computer is not connected to the correct docstorage so can't see the templates. However this is set at the server level, so shouldn't work elsewhere. Or, the computer had SIMS open, while a load of reports were edited / imported, and this does break the reports until you close and re-open the reports window, but closing and opening SIMS should have fixed this. This is for data reports, unless you meant end of term ind.reps or profiles ....? Reinstall as rawns said is the quickest way to check it's not something silly, then make sure connectivity to the server is okay, and local permissions, in case they lack access to the local temp file storage location.
Little-Miss Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 May try local storage permissions as reinstall didn't work. The main report she was trying to run was a class list someone had created. Definitely a machine issue as she is ok elsewhere. ... :/
Little-Miss Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 The only error within SIMS is a dialog box containing the title of this thread...
vikpaw Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 hmm, i wonder if it's got a local cache of the template file needed, and it's causing issues. somewhere there are temp sims folders either locally or in user profile, worth blowing those away and getting them to recreate themselves. otherwise is that error listed on supportnet? i can't log in as it's not working atm.
Little-Miss Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 I don't think there is, but that could be something else I looked for... (Brain frazzled)
Rawns Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) Is the machine Windows 7 and is Offline File Sync enabled for the users My Documents? We've seen no end of reporting issues because of this. SIMS generates the temporary files to create the report and offline file sync does some "crazy caching" with the TempSIMSreports folder which causes the report generation to fail. Disabling it makes such a difference! Edited February 11, 2013 by Rawns
Little-Miss Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Wasn't in work today but yes it's a win7 machine so I'm pretty sure Offline Files will still be enabled as the staff are admins of their machines. Will check that.
bennield Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I'm getting the same message after I edited a report that uses an RTF template. I'm also now unable to run all other reports that use RTF templates, under my domain sign-in, on my machine. I've tried rebooting my machine to no avail. I'm going to try a re-install as recommended here. I have a suspicion that this error is caused by clicking the regular 'Save' button when editing an RTF template in MS Word rather than clicking the 'Save and close' button in the 'Add Ins' tab (I think) but I'll let Capita do the testing to confirm that one! If they ever get round to it that is; this problem has been there in SIMS for years now. I remember experiencing it in 2009. I ended up stopping using any reports that used RTF templates because of the hassle. Years later, for reasons too complex to go into here, I found myself having to use them again and now really wish I hadn't! 1
bennield Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I just tried re-installing SIMS on said machine and I'm still getting the same error with all reports that use RTF templates.
Little-Miss Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 No, i don't think i did. Also made matters worse cus i FMS too lol!! Need to reinstall it actually...
vikpaw Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 RTFs are weird, some things like page setup don't save, so it always reverts to a template. I'd try a different login. Try a non roaming profile account as they store things different. See if deleting your tempsimsrpt and your local sims profile folder helps.
mrwobbly Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I had this problem today and found this thread via Google. Some one at county came back with an apparent solution from support net. The fix is to go into Control Panel - Sync Centre - Manage Offline Files and disable Offline Files.
