Recording communications.

You know that when you call Insurance companies and other similar organisations, a message is played informing you that the call may be recorded 'for training purposes' etc.

 

We are looking for something at will enable our receptionist to record 'abusive' messages.

 

 

Ideally something that will record calls at the push of a button and a message that warns callers that call may be recorded for monitoring and training.

 

Any thoughts on this fellow Edugeekers?

We are looking at this with our Asterisk system.

 

UK law says you must tell the other person you are recording them. In coming calls are ok, you can stick that on the IVR. But for outgoing its not that simple. Really something needs to be automated telling the other caller they are being recorded when the button is pressed.

You have to inform them if you intend to pass the recording to a third party unless its in one of the reasons not to, i.e. "to prevent or detect crime to investigate the unauthorised use of a telecom system". If someone is being abusive on the phone then that is a crime and unauthorised use of telecoms.

Don't forget about Media/Press matters if people find out you are secretly recording phone conversions (even if it is legal).

 

As a matter you should probably refer the matter over to your schools legal team to make sure they support such a setup before you proceed implemting it.
