Apple iMac 24inch - when to renew?

We have a number of Apple iMac 24inch which were purchased in 2008.

 

We are considering our refresh plans for this year but were unsure what to do with these.

 

Apart from updating the operating system, they seem to be working okay however, we would like to know what life expectancy these machines will/should have and/or when they could/should be replaced?

 

Anyone got any experience of these?

No experience of the iMacs, but I have a mid-2007 MacBook 13" that is still going strong. It's reached it's EOL in terms of major release updates (it's on Lion, but Mountain Lion is a bridge too far). I would personally say that if they're still working then keep them for another year, but if you're in the same point that I am with mine, so you can't go any further on the OS. then that is time to consider replacing them within the next 12-18 months.

I have an iMac which is still going from 2006 and is running Lion quite smoothly. My opinion is if they are still working fine, there's no point in paying more money to get the same thing but newer. I would suggest upgrading the RAM if things slow up though
