Chuckster Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 When a user launches IE they are presented with the attached. Deleting the user profile doesn't cure it and nothing useful has shown up in my search results. Every users default search engine is Bing and no add-ons are being used. Has anyone experienced this and what steps did you take to overcome?
Michael Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 This problem can be created by third party add-ons, but also corrupted system files required by IE. Re-imaging is probably the easiest way, seeing as it's tightly integrated with Windows.
Chuckster Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Reimaged the computer in question but to no avail. Have also removed any references of IE implementation in GPO and that proved fruitless. I'm thinking IE10 is something we could desperately do with. If the problem continues we're going to make the move over to Chrome.
sjatkn Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 We used to get this at each and every student logon. They used to get a new default profile from the computer, and it looks like the installation of newer IE's caused this problem as they did not update the default profile on the computer. I fixed it by logging on to a machine, fixing the search providers by opening up the search providers tool and adding Google to it. I then took this profile made it a default profile and put it into the NetLogon folder.
Chuckster Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 By moving the Default profile to the Netlogon folder, how did you go about ensuring that every one of your users got this as a profile to begin with?
denon101 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Because when checking for a profile, it checks Netlogon first and if one is there uses that. 1
Chuckster Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Honestly, I did not know this! First time I'm ever hearing of this. Whereabouts exactly in the Netlogon folder do I store the Default profile - would it be: \\Servername\Netlogon\Default ?
denon101 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Ours is in \\server\netlogon\Default User Sorry that's it.....
Chuckster Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Once I have made the chances do I simply copy the Default User profile to the Netlogon folder? Do I need to alter the Default User profile in any way for my end users to pick up the settings/customisations I have made?
