Settign up router for PC and MAC (Home Use)

I have been asked to set up a Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 for a member of SLT at their home.

 

Now I have set up the Cable broadband version myself at my home house but not a ADSL. I presume it will very similar but the problem i am worried about is that the one of the computers is a MAC and one a XP Laptop. I have never used a MAC before and was wondering if i will have any problems setting up the wireless network. I intend to hardwire the MAC and set the laptop up wireless.

 

Any tips or advice?

No problems. I have the 834G and all of your broadband settings (username, password) are held on the router, so no client config is required.

I have almost the same problem, but in this case I will set Mac up wireless. Does someone know how to do it?

system preferences --> networking --> select airport

 

If the status is set to off , just click on the button that says turn airport on ( short of that there should be what looks like cone or down pointing arrow with a rounded top in the white menu bar at the very top right near where the date, time, etc is if you click on that you can enable it there and configure the wireless settings from there ( should be fairly self explanatory) the only config needed on the computers will be the wireless settings ie SSID of the wireless network and password / pass key or whatever you want to call it for the wireless network.

 

Once you have configured the ADSL modem with its ADSL settings that you get from the ISP ie type of encapsulation ( VCL etc ) and any ip address settings ( depending on if its static or dhcp ) and also a username and password if required then its just a case of securing the wireless network on the router config and any other settings you want to do for the user ie port forwarding for any common applications ( or you can just point the user to - PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall which they need to go to the routers section :
