SamanthaJane Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Not sure what to do with this one - it loads Windows, then says 'Please wait...' with the spinner next to it - as expected. Only it takes about 3 minutes to get to the log on screen. I have readded to the domain, no difference - any clues? It is a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. Thanks guys!
sted Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 try turning on verbose mode so at least it says what its doing rather than "putting you on hold" gpo computer config\admin templates\system\verbose vs normal staus messages [enabled] 1
SamanthaJane Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 That was really useful idea Sted - thanks for that - although once I did that it seemed to speed up - typical!
sted Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 if its first boot to domain it will spend longer applying policies and may be doing software deploy something like smartboard/office can take 20mins+
shadowx Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Something one of the other techs here worked out is that Windows will also scan the local profiles on bootup for some reason causing the Please Wait issue, solution is to delete or trim the local profiles down. We have also found that unplugging the network lead during bootup and plugging it back in once we get past the Please Wait screen seems to make it very quick but that's obviously not a solution in a work/school environment. There was, I believe, a hotfix from MS for the issue but I'm not 100% that it works that well...
TheScarfedOne Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 That's a useful spot, may have to check that one out myself.
oaleksejuk-concerouk Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 have you run an RSOP.msc when you can finally logon? just to check if any GP'S are trying to apply, at one school we found that some machines were trying to map a share that didnt even exist and caused similar issues to this!
SamanthaJane Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks everyone for the advice - I will remember that oaleksejuk - It seems to be ok for now, so hopefully will stay like that!
