Strange One! have you checked what services are run on msconfig? and then disabling all non-microsoft services also if you dont want to send the pc back could you run a script at startup that restarts printer spooler? also did you set the bluetooth support service to start automatically on boot up?

Ah I see what you mean, I take it you're running 64bit then? If you go to the properties on group policy and then to settings there is a tick box to enable this for 2000 and XP Try ticking that and doing a gpupdate

i would avoid item targeting for this and seperate the staff and student start menu in their own GPO's for example we have seperate gpo's for students and staff firstly create a folder for environments that appropriate people can access so you would have: students staff go to: user configuration policies windows settings folder redirection startmenu you then want to select the folders that you just created so for appropriate users then add shortcuts to these folders. make sure the environments are shared so the students and staff can access!

have you run an RSOP.msc when you can finally logon? just to check if any GP'S are trying to apply, at one school we found that some machines were trying to map a share that didnt even exist and caused similar issues to this!

Have you checked any of the switches to see if somethings wrong? Im guessing as a fairly new BSF school they are all 1GB/s? try RMRing some of the slower computers also check that your RM updates are all on also check in the RMMC for any system updates for computers also if you are running RMVP i found that at one larger highschool putting the PCs into the groups with rm policfys on the SEPM this really slowed them down also try a vacuum of the cc4 database and when you can give the server/servers a restart

The issue is how RM manages to integrate CC4 so much into the server, for example the rm service host you even touch that and the thing just gives up.maybe you could get some backing from RM if the school wants more confirmation? like you said they have only ever seen it done as a clean install so they may be able to just give you something in an email that you can give to senior management to confirm the best route.

Hi Dan i have migrated CC4 to Vanilla and your option is the absolute best and in my opinion ONLY OPTION. There are many factors i found but the main is as you have stated due to RM components that are installed on your server you will come across A HUGE amount of issues with users and within group policy. Your best bet is to simply do a clean install like you have said. Gradually migrating across will simply result in you playing with one of the rm services or reg settings and your enitre network will go down. Hate to be the bearer of bad news for your collegue but in my opinion his option, well its not an option id say its more ofan idea and its one of those ideas that should just be left as an idea! so yeah to sum up CLEAN INSTALL! hope that helped!
