This is really starting to bug me now, for the last month i have been unable to connect to my work domain via my home connection but i know there isn't a problem with any connections at work as i can access the services from my neighbours house and even on my phone via the data connection.

I am with TalkTalk and the problem has been logged for over 3 weeks now. I thought it might just be a setting on my router, turns out my router at home is perfectly fine. I have even tried a speedtouch 330 modem and i still get the same problem.

The first time i rang talktalk i got someone on the phone who said

Support: "Are you having problem with your internet"

Me: "too right, i cannot access my work domain from home"

Support: "Are you connected wired or wirelessly?"

Me: "thats not the problem, when i run a tracert to my domain, it stops at your gateways! Why can everyone else access my domain when they are a sky customer of o2, orange etc. even my phone connects ok on a 3g connection"

Support: "we dont deal with business lines"

me: "its not a business problem!! Can you escalate it to level 2"

Support: "there is no level 2. you need to get the it admin to configure access"

Me: "i am the IT administrator!! can i speak to your manager!"

Anyway, manager comes on and claims its a windows live problem.

After many attempts at trying to speak to someone i finally get someone who understands the problem, so i send him the traceroutes and passes them to his network service desk. They text me back saying the fault has been fixed when it quite clearly hasn't.

What should i do now? Like i say, i can tracert 8.8.8.8 and it completes without any problems infact i can successfully traceroute any domain/ip address and it completes but when i try my IP addresses/domain names at home, it stops on hop 4 however if i run a traceroute on my phone over the data connection it completes.

Thanks

Hi, when you say you can traceroute with your phone do you mean using its 2G / 3G network or wirelessly via your Talk Talk Internet connection?

It does sound like a Talk Talk routing issue between them and the hosting provider. Keep on pressing them and hopefully you'll get through eventually. If not then change ISP or bounce via another server elsewhere on the Internet :)

Yep, the phone is using the 3g connection and completes successfully.

My domain at work is with TalkTalk Business, apparently 2 totally different companies.

This problem still isn't fixed.

Is there something that i am over looking before talktalk's engineers come out find that the problem is simple and charge me a fortune?

Surely if i can access my domain via every other way apart from my line at home via a speedtouch 330 usb modem, that is surely enough to say there is a problem with my line to my work connection. Nothing on the router at work has changed either.

Trace complete.

Can anyone give any other things to check before i make one final call to talktalk.

Thanks

They are now saying they dont support residential access to VPNs or services at work premises. I understand that but when i can go round to my relatives house who are with talktalk and i can use all services, VPN, email access and HAP that surely means there is a problem with my lines at home, not my lines or equipment at work.

Looks like im moving away from talktalk, i knew they should be called walkwalk.
