featured_spectre Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 So far each company has agreed that they will keep on the employees for a minimum of 1 year, so all is not lost, they can prove they have skills and hopefully stay on, though granted, some games/franchises should stay in reasonable condition and work nicely under the new banners.

They're also publishing Aliens: Colonial Marines, and it'll really mess the atmosphere up if you end up creeping down a corridor with Tails flying ahead with a light. Gutted that it's all ended up here though, THQ published some of the best games of the last few years, why they never caught on is beyond me No mention of the WH40k licence in all that either, be interested to know what happens there. I'd have expected Sega to snag that given that CA already have the rights to vanilla WH (to make Total War: Warhammer, if there is any justice in this world).

I hate to say it, but I think their downfall may have been them having too much focus on franchised games - ie. movie/tv games. They only have a short lifespan compared to those which are original IP in my experience. You only really sell them during the hype for that movie/tv show. With a lot of their games, the IP may well simply revert back to the company/studio that licensed it to them. So Games Workshop end up with the IP back to lease to someone else, Nickelodeon get the Spongebob IP etc... Edited January 24, 2013 by localzuk

Vigil to Close Seeing as the licenses for 40K and WWE weren't sold, it's assumed they'll revert to the license holders, so Games Workshop and WWE.. hopefully they'll redistribute them well. Bit surprised EA didn't jump on WWE though, another yearly iteration game to add to the roster? Edited January 24, 2013 by DMcGuigan

Be interesting to see what happens to the various online services though. They did, but I would imagine that the terms of the licence would affect whether it goes with them or not. Hiopefully it does, though, as the DoW games were ace, and Space Marine was good fun if only because it was the fulfilment of 15-year old daydreams With Sega already having the relationship with GW and the success of the DoW games, hopefully something will be worked out though.
