pooley Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Anyone have an IOS / Android app that the parents can download and install on their smartphones? Who did you get to write/design it? What content do you have on it? Thanks Si
unixman_again Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 We are supposedly having one developed by a external company. We spec'd what we wanted back in July and the last demo we saw was early December and we haven't heard a dicky bird since! What is supposed to do is pull bits off the college website (the news, the calendar and the about us) and also show local live transport info, google maps, and pull in the latest college Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. I had to write various atom feeds for our website bits and the app grabs these. I don't know how the live transport info etc works, but I think it just queries National Rail live updates. I think we would have been better off spending the money on sending me on a couple of courses and developing it in-house. The external people are too slow. Supposedly we get the Apple version first and then they start on the Android version. (Have they never heard of multi-tasking?)
mavhc Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Why bother? Can do all that in a webpage, no need to pay to have someone approve anything, cross platform, easier to update.
hardtailstar Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Im learning how to do this at the moment. Eventually our school will have an android app
mthomas08 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 This is something that keeps popping up for us, I know Frog are doing a Windows 8 app (hopefully they do one for Android/iPhones). Idea is all the news about their homework, deadlines and any more info will appear.
Trapper Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 It's on my list of things that will never have enough time to do. We have a great idea for an iPad app to aid our non-verbal kids with communication - but I haven't coded since BBC BASIC. I do have more motivation as the BSS is learning and telling everyone how good he is at it! (WYSIWYG wizards)
nmw10 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 We have an iOS app for our school at the moment with general information- the school calendar, term dates, our prospectus etc. I am in the process of making one that students, staff and parents can log into and get specific information.
