[ms office - 2003] Why does Office think I'm offline?

Hi.

 

When inserting pictures/clipart into Word, Publisher, Powerpoint etc. If I choose 'Online Pictures' I get the following message:

 

"You need an internet connection to insert online pictures. While you are offline, you can insert pictures from your computer".

 

I can confirm that I am definitely online!

 

The strange thing is; the icon in my systray also says "No internet access".

 

Any suggestions?

Going through some dodgey lea proxy from the nineties?

Mmm Office isn't great with proxies, try using Office 2013 with an authenticating proxy and enter pop up hell.

My proxy is ISA 2006 *groans*

 

I think this is more of an issue with Windows 7 rather than Office.

Isa can easily be set as a transparent proxy thus solving the issue, you can even limit it to certain machine IPS .

 

I think you can also force windows 8 to use the IE proxy information with a netsh command, think I saw @Arthur post about it.

 

Edit: last bit was from a different thread, same command should force lower versions to look to the proxy too.

For anyone else seeing this problem, the way I fixed it was by tweaking the Registry:

 

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

 

on "EnableActiveProbing" - Change the value to 0.

Having the same issue here at our school trying to get to office.com for clipart through an authenticated proxy. If I turn authentication off on the proxy the clipart search works fine. Also if I do this for a user then turn authentication back on the user is then prompted for auth and the clipart search works. But I do not know what gets changed to enable it. Logging on as another user and again the search fails so its a user specific change Any ideas here
