I'm doing some blog posts: free IT tips for everyone to steal & send on

Figured I'd cross post this, as blogs aren't overly obvious round these parts unless you specifically remember to go looking (and by the looks of the posts & comments, it's a select few of us who do).

 

So as a heads up, cos some of you might find it useful: I'm going to be posting some free IT tips up every week for you to modify & send round to your staff. I send one round every week here, just a brief side of A4 with something small in, to remind people that we're friendly people not just mindless automatons wot make computers run good. It's also a great way of secretly improving their IT skills and making my life easier.

 

More introduction and the first tip @ my blog here, anyway - subscribe to the blog if you want notification of them going up every Tuesday, as I don't intend to bump this post.

 

 

(on a related note, it would be awesome if new blog posts got mixed in with the What's New page as well as forum posts, but I don't know if that's actually possible in vBulletin)

You might have come up with some of the ideas of them to write, so I'll give you that much and no more!

I'll shamelessly copy your work - although always happy to credit the originator. In fact I'm proud of copying. It's not laziness, it's efficiency I maintain that there's an art to successful copying - done badly you'll quickly end up in an embarrassing mess. Pick out the right stuff to copy and you can be much more productive than starting everything from scratch.

 

I started providing weekly tips for our staff this year, so I can honestly claim to have had the idea to do it all by myself. I think that it might be a while before we get on to your improved use of Office tips though. My first tip of the year was to please turn off the computers when you finish using them for the day, as I'd found that updates and policies I was pushing out weren't being installed. Unfortunately that proved to be too advanced. Most of them had been unplugged by the cleaners over the Christmas holidays, so couldn't even be turned on to allow them to resume from sleep / hibernation
