osx 10.8 connecting to windows smb share

I was trying last week to connect a staff members mac book air (how the school can afford these when suite pc are 7 years old and dying i dont know) and whatever i tried i could not get it to connect to smb shares on my 08r2 server. smb:\\server\share$ brought up the usernaem password box but shatever i tried in there it just would not connect tried domain\user [email protected] etc even tried domain admin account just kept wobbling the window and asking again for username / password. Any ideas servers just a std 08r2 box

did you try just the username and password no domain\ etc? As ours if it asks it doesnt require the domain part and is quite happy with the username n password. This was done before we added them to the domain.

I thought OS X 10.7 or 10.8 used its own version of SMB ( SMB X ) which does not work correctly or the same as normal SMB. May be a case of using SMB UP ( eduo.info » SMBUp )

aye a quick google says os 10.7 up has issues with smb

how odd..? do you have a linux or nas share you could try connecting to?

 

nope just one 08 box

 

i remember 10.7 being a pita elsewhere as well it would weite to network but nowt else could read it

only thing that has just sprung to mind was i remember one of ours randomly asking for the local admin user n password before accepting the domain details. I think something it was trying to do with Keychains. So you could try that, if that doesn't work afraid im fresh out of ideas at the moment.
