Hi all,

 

I think I know what the answer is but just so that I know I've tried all avenues, I thought I'd ask you lot.

 

Anybody have any ideas how to retrieve the data from a dead micro SD card? When I say dead, I mean completely dead; neither Windows nor Linux even recognise it's plugged in, so any attempt at data recovery software has failed before it's even started.

 

I've tried freezing it as I've had mixed success with HDD's doing that in the past, but no luck.

 

Usually I'd just bin the thing but it's from the missus' phone and contains pictures and videos of the little one of which there are no backups (the row about that one has already been and gone!) :(

 

I know there are data recovery companies but I'm dubious as there are no guarantees and so (in my cynical opinion) no incentive for them to even attempt to recover your data, but as that's looking like my only option now I'd be willing to try one on of them based on fellow EduGeek's recommendations.

Yes i have. It was a hard drive but they recover from everything. They are not some guy in their bedroom.

There was a small fee to pay when i sent it and they looked at at then put a copy of everything that could be recovered online to look at. If you decide they can recover enough of your files you pay them the rest and they send your data to you.

Just as an example, it costs £75 for them to analyze a HDD and then between £495 and £995 to recover the data depending on the complexity.

Well I know they say memories are priceless but damn! There's a limit!

Although his post looks like spam (especially due to the location), I have had a teacher recover a personal SD card by using recoverfab.com.

 

The card was well untruly dead in the water, nothing could see it, it had some very personal memories on it and he was willing to pay the prices they ask. Recoverfab.com sent him a selection of photos then he paid to get them all and was over the moon because he thought he had lost them forever. His card broke while on holiday (2nd to last day) so he had no way of backing them up from his camera.

Can you report suspect posts rather than comment please. We see reports and can investigate, but don't always notice comments

Even if they are 6-7 months old? :confused:
